Default Freighting a car to japan

Does anyone know how much it would be ship a car or two to japan? I think I'd have to get a container on a ship but does anyone know whats involved with it, and if I would have to pay duty or tax once in japan. I'm gonna ship over my friends old impala to him.
thanks in advance.

they are pretty strict with that stuff....

you will have to pay duties.

I will contact the guys from any reliable jdm parts shop....jdm1.com or something like that they might be able to point you in the right direction.

My buddy sent his car to australia...muscle cars are big there too...you friend is smart taking his impala there.....he could probably sell it for like 5 times what it is really worth and make the shipping worth it.

I would guess he is gonna have to pay about $5000.

well....here I will use my brain now.

You are gonna need to know the cubic meteres...for the impala I would say somewhere around 13.5.

They charge you per cubic meter.

i know some places that ship from japan to here. I know that you have to have advanced registration for a lot of the companies...but I m not sure going the other way....they will know.

Coming from japan it would run ou around...my guess....$180 per cube...so about $2400.

Add taxes and all that stuff and it can go up quick....insurance...crap like that.

going the other way I have no clue man...I could contact my buddy that shipped to australia and see what they did and who they went through if you like.

here are some shipping companies.

you could email these guys...they ship from japan here so they could help you out.
info@cineaction.co.jp remember they are 16 hours ahead of us.

you could also try http://www.karmanshipping.co.uk/japan/japan.html
I know they ship to japan...but I don't know if they work with the us direct to japan...I know they ship from japan to aus from aus to us....stuff like that.

some rules for importing http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/
