Default My car isn't fast.... :(

Ok this is weird. All you guys know that I got tuned this past monday. Last night I went to the track. I was using dry ice for the first few runs, and it seemed I wasn't getting enough boost. So I stopped using it, and I still wasn't getting enough boost. Basically I would normally boost like 1.1-1.2 in 3rd gear, but it was a lot lower than this. So I turned the ABC up 3.5 turns and it got me back to around what I was running before the tune. What is going on? Here are the dyno sheets, and the logs I took of the last three runs.

I'm not sure what you were expecting but based on your dyno chart you're right where you should be. Your driving can be improved because with a 100mph trap you should be running about a 13.2.

Well, I was expecting just that, Phil, a 13.2 I'm not ripping on XXTuning at all. I thought they made a great tune. I had run a 13.57 with the MBC instead of the UTEC. The problem is that when I got to the track I was running significantly less boost, well at least it seemed. After turning the ABC 3.5 turns I was back down around that 13.5 range. I saw in the UTEC, there is a boost gain setting, is there a way I can just use that to turn up the boost? What is the ratio of boost gain to "turns on the ABC" ?


Also, since you said I can improve my driving, can you give me some suggestions on when to shift or if my launch should be improved?

XXTuning also gave me a race map, which was to be used with 1-2gals of c-12 or c-16. I was hoping to get 12s on that map, but i'm not sure.


I wonder if it was the dry ice cooling down the IC too much...

Wrap your log info above in a [ c o d e ] [ / c o d e ] block (don't put spaces in like that example though). It will make the columns line up properly. It makes my eyes bleed as it is.

Here's my suggestion: Go back to the track, leave the dry ice alone, and use 16" wheels with either stock or lower profile tires if you aren't already. Where to shift for best results, I do not know.

That said, I think 13.506 is damn fine unless you care to launch at higher RPMs and shift 1-2 with no mechanical sympathy.

You've proven you have a 13.2-ish car. Getting there without shredding something is a different story. I'd be satisfied as Phil suggested, but what do I know.

I was expecting a higher trap speed, but thats still a good time..

Is your boost map open loop or closed? Someone told me that the boost gain setting only worked with the CLB map, but I'm not 100% on that, its probably in the manual if I looked though.. I made a CLB map finally for my car and the boost gain worked just fine, i lowered the number to get a quicker response but with slight spiking initially.

edit: You might want to calibrate your TPS to reach 100% because otherwise you are not getting into your 100% boost map column.

hey just a quick note, same thing with me, low speeds low boost, guess what? Loose IC hose clamp! Factory had it loose and I had to tighten it 10 turns of a screwdriver just to snug it! then another 4 to tighten it!
I have never had my IC off the car so Subaru left it loose from the factory! I knew something was wrong but couldn't pinpoint it untill I was trying to fly around PIR yesterday and noticing my boost would hit my target then drop to 11 psi at wot in 4th.

So moral of the story is check your hose clamps etc, before you mess with the tuning, I had actually spent hours programing and trying to sort it out when all I needed was a screwdriver!

Thanks i'll definitely check everything, but i'm pretty sure it ended up just being the fact that the dragway is at a higher altitude and it was extremely humid that night.

Also, I'm getting some knock at 4500-5000 rpm in all gears, but it goes away with some octane booster....which should I do? Always get octane booster, or retard the timing 1 degree and add some fuel??

You have several options if you are consitently getting knock in one area. After you've determined that it's not a bad tank of gas..

You can decrease timing one degree around where it knocks; Your only running a peak of 26 degrees I think from looking at your log so it's not terribly high IMO.

You can add .2 of fuel in the area it knocks

You can lower the boost values in the boost map alittle too.

Here is a log I did last night. My ic was alittle heatsoaked so the boost pressure was about 1psi lower than normal but the car still felt great.. I think we have similar fuel maps.
