Default USDM 2.0motor CLOSER to radiator

Well last night I did some Tweeks on some things....connected the fuel lines, Mounted the Boost Solinoid, mounted the Belt cover, connected my Brake booster.....then I noticed that the front of the USDM 2.0 is WAY closer to my radiator...have a 1.5 inches of clearance...from the fans...where the 2.5 sat back in the engine compartment about another 2 inches....is THIS normal???? Car has never been hit...Hence the reason the stock RS Radiator hoses don't fit.......

Can some one take a picture of the front of their motor looking down toward the fans...

Thanks..

Bill

Yes, that is normal.
If you ever choose to put on aftermarket headers then you will have to move the fan wiring/connectors a bit. The headers will hit the wires and eventually melt them.

Yea, this surprised me too. Here's a crappy picture that kind of shows it. I took the picture for another reason(coolant coming our of cap and hose ruptured), but you can see the belt on the left and the radiator fans so you can see this distance. Apparently it's perfectly normal. But is it only the GD engine in the GC chassis that does this or is it any 2.0 from any year? I have tons of room behind my STi intercooler even though I have a Cusco bar, so I don't know if a GC8 engine would sit differently.

WOW you guys are pretty snug in there. I did JDM 2.0 swap and used JDM radiator in my GC8 and have lot more room than you on top. The bottom is where it is close for me. My plugs sit on the heat shields. I also had 2.5rs radiator in there and wasn't like that. I used the stock JDM hoses and had no problem. Heard you had to modify them if you use stock US is that true?

This should be very interesting. I'm installing a 38mm core radiator in there for my swap. Hope it fits. Looks like I might be removing the radiator to do anything with the belts.

I-Speed (or anybody for that matter), do you guys have some pictures of engine bays with USDM engines installed?
