Any parts not x'd that I need? Anything not on the list that I need?
Your help and expertise is greatly appreciated.

Also, about how much do think it'll cost to paint this to match my L wagon?

Thanks

Buying brand new is about the worst way to go about doing this. The cheapest way to do this would be to find a yard that has all the parts and buy it all together. For instance, I purchased my 2001 Outback Sport hood with vents, scoops, and blocking plates for $175 locally.

Since your car is a 1997, your color should be found on any of the Outback Sports and some of RSs. Since that is the case, you might even be able to find the entire conversion in your correct color and save the paint costs. If you do choose to buy everything brand new, you are missing the mounting hardware for the pieces. You can also save yourself a bunch of money if you shy away from all the backing plates. Shipping is going to kill you though since all of these are oversized.

Painting will cost a lot. I priced out the painted of my hood and grill, including stripping, at $600.

I appreciate your input. There are no yards around me with ANY impreza parts (I've checked)

Also, my color is a weird blue that I've never seen on an outback sport.

Since I have looked and lookd and not found anything new, I started looking the "new" route.

Your wierd blue is "mystic blue" code 66C, revel in it's uniqueness. It was only in 1997. I have grown to appreciate it over the last six years. It makes an uncommon car even more uncommon. There are probably fewer of these than green RSs.
A hood with no scoops and and vents runs around $150 used. Vents and scoop run about $100. Lights about $150. Bumper lights around $35. Bumper vents don't come up much for sale. A new bumper skin might be your best bet. You can cut up the bumper beam to fit if you are not fussy. Count on about a $1000 all in including shipping and paint for the bumper and another $500 for the hood and bits. If you go all new then double that.
This is a pretty steep price, but some feel it is necessary.

Mystic Blue huh? I like the color and always wondered what it was called Thanks for the info there.

Thanks everyone for those links and advice as well, I will search harder for some used parts as the cost savings seems well worth it.

Sure you like the colour but would you rather have another colour? Now would be a good time to make a change if you have any inclination.

I had a bunch of parts for my 97L and realized my repainting options were...

1) paint all parts together by matching the paint to my faded 97 original paint (Result: paint condition is only as good as the paint is on the 97 today). Paint matching process will add extra expense.

OR

2) paint the whole car including the new parts thus bypassing the paint matching process. (Result: new paint and hopefully not brittle like the stock Subaru paint) . For a little bit more, you can also change the whole colour if you wanted, say, a custom colour.

Then you have to make decisions about jambing the car and doing the engine bay. Just depends how far you want to go. Personally, I would love to refresh the entire car. However, I do not want to deal with jambing the car and so my paint color options are limited to the Glacier white my car came equipped with. Many will not be as anal about this as I.

I wouldn't mind a Blue Rally Pearl wagon thats for sure I love that color

Wouldn't it be SIGNIFICANTLY more to repaint the whole car rather then just a new hood and bumper?

Yes it would but you could get things like the door handles, mirrors and bump strips done at the same time. Don't forget side skirts and some sort of rear wing too.
My paint has not faded at all and it is in relatively good condition so I'll be keeping it.

Hell when the time comes I am going to strip all paint off, get all dents taken out and have everything repainted, otherwise I will have the multi color look.
What color is your car now? A Rally Blue wagon would be nice, especially your year and model you are doing. Although the weird blue you have is a nice color already, I think it is somewhat of a limited color, not many Impreza's with it on at all.

I think it's funny that you say this color is rare (97 'l' wagon Blue) because I see two 4 doors, 2 two doors, and one other wagon in this color all the time. Maybe just lucky?

Who knows.

Are you sure my color is rare?

Where do I find the actual paint code to confirm?

Paint code should be on your model plate on the driver's side strut tower (I think).

According to www.paintscratch.com, the 97 Impreza blue/teal colour is "66C".

Yeah I had the door handles/mirrors painted to match and had some minor dings fixed up along with the full body paintjob. Also I had bumpers/grill/sideskirts/rear spats/mudguards painted so it definitely was a better choice to paint the whole car for me. I did not paint the door jambs or the engine bay, only the outside parts. I elected to keep the original colour.

Your situation is different from a few of ours though so choose what's best for you. It's hard to say how much more expensive it is to get the whole car done without first getting some quotes. Most shops will cut you a big discount if you should remove trim/misc pieces (ie. mirrors/roof/sidemarkers/corner lamps/headlights/taillights, etc.) yourself before bringing your car over to the shop.

I say it's rare, because in the 6.5 years that I have owned this car I have only seen 2 in the same colour, both wagons. Plus Subaru only sold about 3 Impreza a year before the RS came along. Seriously I would be surprised if they sold more than 5,000 imprezas in 1997 N.A. The OBS did not have this colour, 30% would be white; red, black and green were more popular then too. Plus few people had heard of WRC and knew that Subaru's are supposed to be blue. I guess there are less than 1000 Mystic Blue subies running around.

Be carefully when ordering the paint. My bodyshop dude ordered the colour and it came as the green/teal colour. He had to send it back.

Default hood bits

u want the 01 bumper skin, its identical to STI v6 including the little holes along the bottom to fit the STI v6 lip spoiler. the 99-00 i think didnt have that. - get from dealer, shipping is $$$

turnsignals u can buy from autodynamic.com. aftermarket clear ones, but they come with the wiring harness (its differnt)

bumper beam u can use hte STI superlight one (if u have the guts to) its only $60 or so from subaru parts.com

foglights are best bought used, or just get the covers - the cheapest ive seen them is $29 on ebay. i dunno about quality though, u can get dependable quality replica for about $60 i would say.

hood - u culd get a CF hood- $412 if u pick it up at VIS - including vents/scoops. if u are not in cali, then pay the shipping. getting CF is cheaper than the STI aluminum. or try to buy a used one.

i went for the STI aluminum hood, and vents/scoops are hard to com by. my aluminum hood ran me $454 for neeked hood. vent sran me $45 shipped (used) and im getting a hood scoop for $75 shipped.

headlights can be solved cheaply on ebay if u like the projector type stuff. $115 should get a set. grill piece find it used or get a V5/6 replica - i think primitive has it for about $75 or somthing

yeha. hit me if u have any q's.

my car has gone from :

to its current state of chaos:

Talking 66C here also.....

It is a rare color. From 1994 to 1996 there was a similar color but it was more green than blue. I parked mine next to it and there is quite a difference. I love my color and get compliment from those who know. I also have the gold RS wheels and jdm clear tails. Working on getting the aluminium RS hood.......
