Default Gas indicator arrow

The gas indicator arrow in myu Legacy has been wierd for a while , as the indicator showed that the tank is almost empty but i could drive another 200 miles until it showed me the yellow light , but now its getting even wierder ... every time i turn or do something that is not REALLY smooth the arrow goes from the top(i filled full tank today) into a coplete bottom and then comes back to normal .. either it goes to a comple bottom or the middle or near the end .
Anyone have any ideas why it happen and how does it effect my gas milage, real gas quantity or maybe theres something wrong with the tank itself or something else
Thanks ahead
