Default Gauges, gauges and more gauges arrghh!

I'm going for a double pod pillar mount. Need advice on 2nd gauge aside from boost.

A/F Ratio: first choice

Vaccum Temp: 2nd choice. Would be nice to see what temp the air being drawn into the piston chambers is.

Oil Press: dummy gauge built into dash already

Voltage: dummy gauge built into dash already

Water temp: Engine temp gauge in dash already

Oil temp: Don't plan on upgrading Turbos

EGT: Dont plan on upgrading turbos

Any advice or opinions appreciated.

None of the A/F gauges on the market that I'm aware of are terribly accurate, so they are hardly worth the money. I've seen one in action and it's just so erratic that it doesn't provide useful information at all.

I'm not sure if the 2004's rely on just the idiot light for oil pressure, but I'm assuming from "dummy gauge" that they do. If so, I'd definitely recommend a proper oil pressure gauge. The light only comes on when oil pressure drops to the perilously low level of 2.5 psi (again, this is on 2002/03's, so it may have changed), by which time it's probably far too late to do anything to avoid engine damage.

My 2 cents.

Joel is absolutely right about the Oil Pressure. The warning light in the gauge cluster will only illuminate after it's too late. Think of it as a heart monitor with no display and just a warning buzzer.

btw, you don't need modifications (i.e. turbo) to justify the usefulness of an Oil Temp gauge. As an example, it can tell you when your engine has fully reached it's operating temperature. Just because your water temp is up to it's operating range doesn't mean the oil is (it's takes a little while longer). The other gauges you dismissed can also be valuable in detecting potential problems or help monitor the overall health of vital systems (stock or modded). Obviously, some of these gauges become more important in the individual's application when modifications are involved.
