1)Drivers are grouped according to experience.

Group 1 is for first time track drivers and those who want to start slowly and will concentrate purely on driving safely at different speeds.
Group 2 will focus more on getting faster on the school line and driving as smoothly as possible.
Group 3 will be instructors and drivers with prior experience that qualifies them.

2)Larry is a SOA executive, not a race car driver. He says he is most comfortable getting some instruction and perhaps doing some laps. He will be there primarily to support our event and see how well/safely we pull it off.

Hey!

I am a useful teacher. I can teach you how to scare your passengers to death, how to drive a rental car faster than it's concept designers ever dreamed it would go, etc.

So, after our run, then what? Of course it will be fun to watch everyone race, but I was wondering if there would be anything else goin' on. Will any of the sponsors have hop-up parts there available for on-the-spot installation? That'd be cool. I'm bringin' $$$ just in case. The sponsors could make a lot of sales there.

Question

Angus,
Will the instructors be the same for each class?

Lots of track time for them!

Hello,

I'm not going to speak for Angus and how this event will run, but usually, the instructors might drive a lap or two in your car to show you what you can do with it, but for the most part, the instructors get a lot of passengering time . With an unfamiliar course, being an instructor is kind of cool because you can learn the course before it's your turn to run I think Paul E. may be the only instructor in that boat, though.

Angus, how is it going to be done this time? At my t-hill school session, most beginers had the instructor do a warmup lap and a couple hot laps and then pitted to swap seats. From then on out, instructors were quite happy to drive, but only did drive when their "students" asked them to. Also, are we doing different instructors for each session? I like that technique because it exposes the student to several different styles... Of course, every time I have multiple people passenger with me, I get multiple, usually conflicting, opinions on what to do But that's part of the learning experience - no one knows the perfect way.

Cool

Joel summed it up perfectly.

We aren't going to do anything radically different from other events, except we control the flow of the event which allows us to free up those who can run fast safely while keeping those who wish to run slowly free from pressure. Most of the "Group 2" folks at the last private event I attended were enjoying safe solo runs after mid-day, either practicing what they learned or following instructors.

If you haven't been there, you will be blown away by how long it is and how much space there can be between cars.

cheers,

angus

I've almost finished the Drivers Handbook which I hope will answer a lot of questions.
