Deers generaly goes "frozen" at the sight of lights. And give you that stoned look. I think it's call tharned or something.... It's not your car. A chevette wil cause the same deal too.

You guys have it easy. Up north we have to worry about moose, which weigh much more than a deer.

I am scared to death of deer, in my last car I hit 5 of them(84 BMW 528e) well actually 2 of them ran into me, well actually 2 of them ran into me, so I know what you are talking about mpaone. Does anyone believe you on that story? Everyone thinks I'm crazy but I swear the deer ran straight into my fender. I should post pics of that car, looks like something from a mad max movie! Oh hey its for sale anyone want to buy it?? please??? So now that I have my 3 month old RS, I am terrified that the deer will find me, and extract revenge on my new baby. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I swear the deer I have it out for me...

Deer suffer from phototaxia, they can be paralyzed by light.

Thank you and goodnight.

Thanx to all who posted replies and welcomed me to the board. most people I tell this story to are sympathetic but are unaware of how kool it was to miss the deer. I mean, we were within 20 feet of the thing before he swerved, but if we hadn't waited until the last minute, he might have turned back at the last munute. I concider that we were not just lucky, or that my husband was skillful with the vehical, but the car itself was just where it's at. I love our Impreza and may never go back to a two wheel drive.

Hey mpaone and Slim Speedy,

go up about 5 posts, and read my link. You are not alone. Bambi rammed my car as well.

I think that it has to do with judging closing speed - the deer just don't have a clue. "I think I'll run now . . . Bang . . . D'oh!"

You have a freind who goes to school here? How unusual! It's not like we don't have Oregon State University here or any thing. J/K Go Beavers! My husbad works for the University Housing and Dining as a cook and I work at an Alzhiemer facility.

Cool

I can think of several resons to go here, but they are all resons why I live here. Things like, beautiful scenery, moderate weather year round, generally freindly people, clean road sides and streets, and last but not least, no sales tax. I hope this answers your question.

The foglights give the deer extra phototaxia. Nice story.

Mom and I were coming home from a long vaacation, about 200 miles away from homebase, we start to run low on fuel about 30 miles outside of Pueblo. We slow down to conserve fuel, and 10 minutes later, we hit a deer! If we had been going full bore, it would have been ugly. But the part we both still joke about it that mom was driving, and I saw the deer first. I looked at her and said, "Deer". Having been recently divorced after 20 years, her instinctual reaction was "Huh?". Immediately following that was "NO! DEER!"...THUD! We still think it's funny...only because we both survived in prefectly good condition. An isuzu rodeo does an excellet job against a deer at low speed .

Exclamation Why the Impreza rules

I joined this board so I could share this expirience with a bunch of Impreza fans.....

Three months ago, my husband and I went to a multi-dealer car secial. We did not go intending to buy, just look. After we were snubbed by the Honda people, we went and talked to a dealer who had Subarus and Toyotas. The person we talked to showed us his favorite car, a white 2001 Impreza 2.5 RS. We took a test drive and fell in love. Shortly after we signed all the papers, a youngman we never met before came up and got into our car and drove away. Turns out the man was there first.... But the set us up with a really nice black one that was equiped the same way.

Of course we were very happy with our addition, but something happened recently that really sinched it for us.

Halloween night, we were taking a drive in the mountians near where we live, going to pay a visit to some friends that live there. A deer was standing by the side of the road when it saw us and thought to itself, "There's that brand new car I've been looking for!!" and leapt into the road. My husband, who was driving slammed on the brakes in a way that you can only do with anti-lock, but we still would have hit the deer if he hadn't swerved around it at the last possible moment. The car was so agile, it was like a part of the road. We came away from the expirience with our hearts racing but not a scratch, not a hair. I turned to him then and said, "If you had any doubts before, I'm sure they're gone now!"

Well, I admit, I was a littile doubtful about buying a $20,000 car, but I sure am glad we did.

Cool

I was driving through some mountain roads one night, and came across Mom Deer and Baby Deer. Mom Deer, being older and wiser...stayed on her side of the road. Baby Deer, being young and confused...bolted across the road. I stopped...and waited. Waited waited waited. Poor Baby Deer was too scared to cross in front of my car! Could it be the massive fog lights? The nutty rumbly Borla exhaust? The menacing hood scoop? Who knows! But eventually I turned off my lights, turned off my car...and sat there...praying another car wouldn't come flying up behind me and cause...problems. Baby Deer sucked up it's courage and bolted across to join Mom.

I knew my car intimdated Civics, Integras, Mustangs...etc. But who know that it would intimidate a deer?

D. Neil Crawford

Welcome! I believe I'm still the only person I know who was HIT BY a deer! It hit my drivers side rear quarter and his head came through the back side window. Sheesh!... if he wanted a ride, all he had to do was ask!
