Well, after quitting my last job, I made sure I had a good week off in between so I could take a road trip. Saw a lot of Scoobies on the road! Also lots of interesting people and places.
So, if any of you in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, DC area, Maryland, Pennsylvania or Delaware saw a yellow Spec-V driving around, it was probably me. The most impressive part was driving yesterday from Raleigh area to Houston (over 1200 miles) in about 17 hours including stops. That makes for a looooong day, especially when you're alone. So, what's the furthest you've driven alone in one day? cat

North Arlington, NJ to Moline, IL. I left at 2:30am and arrived in Moline at 5pm (CST). That was 15.5 hours of driving, approx. 1000 miles.

longest drive.. about 1/2 way between Pittsburgh and Outer Banks, NC (4 hours) or Houston to Dallas, which seems longer because I do it alone. |

About the same for me...Jackson MS to Syracuse NY. 1280 miles according to Yahoo, but i took a different, longer way...1350 miles sticks out in my mind iirc. took me about 19 hours stopping only for gas about every 4 hours. it sucked.

Friday night I left Bloomfield NJ (20 min west of NYC) and drove Cleveland Ohio, was back in NJ Saturday at 4pm.
about 20 hours of strait driving, only stopping for gas, and food. ![]() http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289321067 there are the pics from my road trip, left friday night at 10pm The Plan was to drive somwhere...It was a toss up between canada, mohegan sun, and west... I chose to drive as far west on RT 80 as I could go on one tank of gas, but that put me just shy of 100 miles outside of OHIO, So I said funk it, and filled up and headed towards ohio. I stopped at the first rest stop in OHIO, and figured, **** its only another 80 miles to cleveland...ive never been there...so off I went... then I relized I had no cash on me for the oh turnpike (they dont take easy pass) so I bypassed the turnpike and started to head towards Akron, in search of an atm, I never made it all the way to akron, cause I found a ghetto town, but no ATMs! so I went the other direction away from that town and found an ATM and some snacks...so I got my money and headed 20 miles back east towards the OH turnpike so I could head towards Cleveland. I got just outside cleveland and stopped at a rest stop around 5:30am, then power napped for 15 minutes and continued on to cleveland. I toured the town and the beach type park....took pics as you can see. then around 10am I left from Cleveland, and decided to head towards pitsuburg and come home via RT 76 (lower part of PA) but I got off to get gas and accidently got back on the highway heading WEST! I didnt realize this for like 45 minutes, I was practically in Oklahoma! (ok not really but seemed like) AFter I realized my blunder (when i reached amish country) , it took me forever to get turned around and headed back towards correct highway! (I went through akron twice) So I decided to junk rt 76 plan and made my way back to RT80 got in around 5:00 where I then headed to a subaru meet, and now im home from that. I havent slept since thursday im mad tired. RT 80 in PA rules not one cop sighted! on the way there or back.. mmm speeding! |

Austin-Denver, little less that 15 hours, little less than 1000 miles, rained all the way to Lubbock as I went through a cold front on the way there. I was wearing shorts in Austin and freezing my arse off in Denver.
BTW 3 stops for gas! w00+!! |

I drove from Bozeman MT to Somewhere in PA (wherever penn state is) in 36 hours... so like 2160 miles in 36 hours... if that counts... I left Bozeman at 5pm, and drove until I was tired, but that was all the way in PA, and it was graduation in whatever town I first stopped in (Penn State) so I had to drive another hour to find a hotel, AFTER I had hit my limit and was WICKED tired.... I ended up 4 hours from making the whole trip without a stop to sleep...
I was going Bozeman MT ----> Jamestown RI. Had a whole 4 hour drive home from the crappy hotel... But I normally would do that drive in 1,000 mile days with one 400 mile day as it is 2400 miles. I would drive RI-> Chicago in one day, Chicago->Crappy middle of nowhere North Dakota (Bismark). and then the last day into Bozeman... My Longest Road trip was like this: RI->Chicago Chicago->Colorada Spring CS->Zion Zion->Grand Canyon Grand Canyon->Las Vegas Las Vegas->Death Valley->Yosemite->SanFran SanFran->Redwood Redwood->Mt.Rainer Mt.Rainer->Bozeman 9 days (each line=day) 5,500 miles! Great trip.... Oh yeah, I have been to all but 10 state in a car that I have owned... mostly the outback that I replaced with my WRX... Ben |

I drove from San Diego home to Fort Worth, TX. The drive took me about 23 hours or so, I left San Diego at 11am on a Saturday morning and made it home at about 12 noon on Sunday. That was non-stop (stopping only for gas/food, and the occasional stretch at the rest stops), before leaving that Saturday morning I had split a drive with a friend from Bremerton, Washington which is about 60 miles from Seattle (and on the other side of Puget Sound bay) to San Diego, we left on a Thursday about 5pm and made it to San Diego on Friday about 3-4pm. All in all that trip was about 2500 miles for me!

Ft. Polk, LA to Laurel, MD and back - about 19 hours each way - solo
Ft. Polk, LA to Buffalo, NY and back - me and two friends, don't remeber how long it took. Ft. Hood, TX to Laurel, MD 24 hrs total driving time (36 hours counting sleeping stops at rest areas) - solo Ft. Hood to Tuscon, AZ and back - 15 hours each way - solo Laurel, MD to Bradenton, FL - 15 hours - solo. Picked up a friend and headed out to Flagstaff, AZ to Phoenix, to Yuma, AZ and back to Bradenton, FL. Dropped him off and headed back to MD - Totalled 6,000 miles in two weeks Now the longest trip I make is from Indiana to MD and back - about 9 1/2 hours. Oh, all the above trips except the first one were in a '93 Sonoma. It never let me down. The farthest I've been in the RS is Indiana to Latrobe, PA and back, only about 6 hours. That was just a one time trip to go to the Rolling Rock Town Fair two years ago. |

I drove from Los Angeles to the border of CA and OR in one day. With a several hour stop in SF for some tourist action!
Then from the border of CA and OR, to Seattle in half a day. I5 in OR and in CA (south of SF) is boooring. I5 north of SF gets better because you see Mt. Shasta and the road starts getting windy. In central OR it's boring as heck..AND AND you can't pump your own gas *** is that..do I have to tip them??? |
