Local only please. I live in Herndon and work in Manassas. I just got it today. It is the new shift knob Subaru is selling. Half leather half aluminum. It was $63 from SubaruXtra.com - I am so mad. I bought a used Kartboy SS a long time ago and the 1st owner apparently beat it into the socket with a metal hammer so this new knob will not screw on. I tried to put it on my car and it wouldn't go on. Some of the threading came off inside due to the messed up threads on the short shifter but it should still screw onto a nicely threaded SS or stock shifter. As you can see this is why i want to sell it locally. I will sell it for $50. You must meet me or pick it up so you can test fit it right away. If it screws on and fits your car then you can have it for $50 otherwise you obviously don't have to take it because it is shot and i will just throw it out casue i don't know how else to put it on. I know this sounds crazy but I just want to try an get some of my money back.
Let me know if you are interested. No dibs though. !st to meet me, try it, and pay if it fits gets it. Thanks, ~ Joe

Joe,
Most knobs are made of aluminum, I would try and find a tap of the same size and just try retapping the threads. If you want, I could probably try to help you but not sure if my work has a tap that big or the same kind of threads. I have vendors who can definitely retap it if you want to spend some money. Then you will either be able to used it yourself or sell it for more. PM me if you want to try it out. It's worth a shot if you're going to throw it out. You might even be able to make a nice paper weight out of it. |

It has a plastic insert inside of it like the stock shift knob...that is why i don't understand why it won't fit on. The stock knob goes on and off...the threads in the new knob must be just a tiny bit different or not made af the same touch material.
If you can somehow help me fix the threads on my shifter that would be sweet! Thanks, ~ Joe |

Joe,
Be extra careful and double check both front and side view of the shift lever to make sure you're tapping perpendicular to the body of the stick, parallel to the cross section of the stick. Good luck. |

Cool, glad I can direct you to a good solution. Too bad I won't be able to pick up what you would have thrown out.
