Post Anyone see the BMW Impreza?

Go to your local newstands (I saw it at Tower Records) and you will see a magazine called "Performance BMW". Looking at the cover picture you see a nice BMW taking a hard corner... then you look up. He's fitted the hood vents and scoop of an Impreza in his hood! They fit bad and looked hilarious! If someone has this around and access to a scanner, PLEASE post a pic!

You guys are right.

Subaru were the first to use top mounted intercoolers and hood scoops.

Others implementing the same design are poseurs. Who cares if their scoops function or not.

...

Yeah, it's pretty lame. Of course, I think the worst things on that car are the eyeliners and the silly mesh. Why REDUCE the functionality of your headlights? I just don't get it.

Well I'm not sure if I'm going to get laugh at here but I'm planning on getting hood vents for my Focus. Yup you read right a Focus. Why? Because I want them to vent the heat of the engine and the hopefully soon SC that I will be getting. But a hood scoop?...uhm...NO! Do you guys think it would look ridiculous?

Edit: Forgot to mention, it really dosen't look good on a bimmer. The lines of a bimmer dont go very well with the vents of the scoop.

Ford FR200 (Focus) has a large hood scoop (and an even larger wing). Yes, it looks kind of silly, but if it functions to the point of improving performance, why not?

Do a search for the FR220 and you'll see what I'm talking about. The scoop is similar to what some body kits do for the new Celica.

Greg.

[edit] oops, wrote 220 instead of 200.

That picture blows my mind not just because of the hood scoop and vents...but because they are the exact same setup as the RS! Sure...other cars can have scoops, and other cars can have vents...but a scoop in that location, in that shape and size...and vents in those locations in those shapes and sizes...blows my mind! They HAVE to have been thinking Subaru when they made that hood. The similarities are WAY too...uh...similar.

dcrawford - Take a closer look... you'll see the ridge in the centers of the vents that normally goes where the body line of the hood goes on the Impreza. The scoop is angled on the sides, just like ours. This is actually a take-off of our components and they are just worked into that hood, badly. Next time you're by a newsstand, take a closer look... it's really funny seeing.

Hahahahaha, omg. What makes that even funnier is that I used to hang out on this BMW board a lot. The guys there would complain so much about the Z3 style fenders that can be purchased for civics, and the Z3 body kit that can be purchased for the Miata. This is like the exact same thing only the other way around. I think I'm going to go back there to post that pic and give em hell.

Yep, they look pretty much just like the bits from an Impreza; possibly knock-offs? The thing is, if it works, it works. The fact that they have a scoop and vents in and of itself is not a bad thing (assuming they are functional).

I'd like to know what the article says about them

That looks horrible. I like the way Imprezas look, I also like the way BMW's look, but this cross-bred Frankenstein thing is gross. They cancel each other out. It doesn't look mean like a Sube, and doesn't look aggressive like a Bimmer, it looks kind of sleepy and wanna-be. Does that car even have a top mount intercooler added? I hope so. At least some versions of our car have one. Where's that big image of Uncle Ben's Rice that always gets posted?

Some of us seem to be under the apprehension that BMW actually "did" this. Well, no, a BMW is an inanimate object, and it's a fair bet that this heap didn't come from the factory. Moreover the factory, ergo the company, cannot take responsibility for what an idiot owner does to its products. So it's the owner that did all the damage here, and you should write in to the magazine to say how poor you think his taste is. There's no accounting for taste, but I agree - his car (for this can only be the work of a testosterone-crazed, sad loon) does look like a complete POS.

Before laughing too hard at the hood (it is funny), I would want to check out this car more completely. It looks like some seroius work went into this car, and motor appears to be something to be reckoned with (SC, 330hp). Even though it ripped off the vents, it would probably hand a whooping to most of our cars.

Have you guys ever seen Max Power (UK)?? EVERY car in that mag has the Impreza hood scoop for a mod... There's also a guy locally here that drives a yellow 3000GT with the scoop and both vents...

Oh my I love BMW's, I own 3 of them(78 320i, 80 320is, 84 528e), plus a RS of course... but... this car is hideous!! How could anyone ruin the clean looks of a 3 series like this! They should have their BMW taken from them immediately until they can get some common sense.

The only thing that realy swayed me to buy my OBS is because it was the only wagon that had the hood scoop and vent setup. I thought it was so cool when I first saw this back in late '96 and I wanted it ever since. No other car on the road looked like it at the time. Even though Im a 'function over form' type of person now, back then the form side was a bit stronger. Of course I liked the durability, practicality, reliability of the Scoobies though. Damn....Im so ricey. Oh well!

... looks like a modified 318ti with M3 front air dam and M3 mirrors. 330 out of a 4 cylinder is not bad... the add ons are butt ugly though.

Lest we forget... our hood scoops and vents are not functional in factory form... at least not yet!
