Thumbs down Is the STi 10KRPM w/ 260kpm Guage Illegal?

cobbtuning.com they have the STi version guage pack with all harnesses to fit out 2.5RS (for 850$ ouch) But isn't that piece illegal or "offroad only" because it resets your odometer.

Well, I don't think it resets your odometer because it is computer driven and probably saved in memory on the ECU itself. Even if it does reset your odometer, your ECU will still have the correct mileage stored in it and will continue updating it, even if the original cluster won't be updated when it gets back in the car.

I'm not sure how it works but either way, all they have to do is hook up to your ECU and read the real mileage off it.

I installed the Apex S-AFC on my 99 2.5RS, during which I had to remove the ECU (disconnect all harnesses and take out to make room to work). Even when you completely disconnect the ECU from the car, the odo is still saved in memory. It really isn't that easy to change the odo reading, though I am sure there are those that know how to do it!

Unhappy

Sorry to disappoint you, but I ask Teague's auto and he said that they cannot go into our RS. He is sorry for having them on his web site, but it is not a clear switch! I would love to change also, but let's hope the next generatn Impreza for North America will have the speedo going furter than 120mph!
Take care
Jan

at www.cobbtuning.com they say that they will modify the guage pack so that the stock RS harness will plug directly into it.

Thumbs up

who cares, that thing is awesome!!!

but here is an interesting question, if a guy (or gal) was to replace the guage pack, which resets the odometer stored in it, (still saved in the ecu though) and they were then also to replace the ECU, would the original odometer count be completely lost??? unable to be retrieved?

The milage info is store inthe gauge cluster, not ECU. Like Sev said, it will be reset. Now, if one was to find a way to manually add miles to it, you can match your existing milage...

Pretty sure mileage can read in a couple of places in the car even if not directly ( gas pedal, tranny) Do not know about newer but OBD2 Subaru go into limp mode if odo is played with.
