Default Optima Batteries at Costco

Just noticed that Costco had a rack of Blue-Tops and Red-Tops (Group 75/35) for $139 and $99 respectively.

I have no idea if that is useful, since the search is down, but there you go.

Definately the way to go if you're going to buy an Optima. Batterymart.com, ebay, everything it all comes out about the same price after everyone's ridiculous shipping charges except you can probably go to costco for a replacement instead of going through optima.

They also mount and balance tires for $10 a corner, about half the price as every other place I looked into, and sell cases of 6 bottles of Mobil1 engine oil for under $20 I think, a bit cheaper than Walmart's 5 quart jug in the longer run.

That is a decent price for the 35 Red-Top. I paid $109 for mine at Pep Boys.

I assume the 35 is the correct one for the WRX? Wasn't there an issue with the length of the stock cables?

The factory starter cable won't reach the positive terminal, it's short by a few inches. You'd have to replace it with an aftermarket universal one, or a Subaru one from a Legacy which is long enough.
When the search function gets fixed you can look for threads on "Optima" with my user name for more info.

Mulder, searching for your name and Optima is like searching wrx and sti on ebay

I dug through my subscribed threads
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=380968

You should get a 30" cable.

The starter cable will only cost like $4, I would probably choose (I hope I don't get this backwards) the group 34 over the group 35. The 34 is rated for 800cca's, the 35 for 720cca's. Same dimensions, the posts on the 34 are closer to the center vs on the outer corner on the 35.

Also if you have it spray some di-electric grease at all of the electrical connections, helps prevent corrosion. Very useful on grounds as well especially if you strip off the paint.

Mmm, they're not the same dimensions. The 34 is a bit bigger than the 35 and will be a tighter fit in the GD tray. I would recommend sticking with the 35 as I did.
Although the 34 does have a higher capacity and CA rating, IMO it's not worth the extra size and weight. The 720 CCA of the 35 is still plenty and is more than double the 325 of the stock battery. In the year that I have had my 35 Red-Top installed I have never found myself wishing that I had installed a bigger battery. This one is plenty.

You're right, the 34 is a bit longer and weighs more than I thought. Yeah just go with the group 35.

Group 75/35
L x W x H: 9.4" x 6.8" x 7.8"
min weight: 33.1lbs

Group 34
L x W x H: 10" x 6.8" x 7.8"
min weight: 37.9lbs

Group 34/78 (additional side terminals)
L x W x H: 10" x 6.8" x 7.8"
min weight: 38.8lbs

I got my Optima SC35A at Interstate for $99
http://www.ibsa.com/estore/default.asp

It fits perfect and took no modifications.

From the description, the one from Costco is the SC75U. Does the SC35A have the top-posts in a different location, or did you just manage to get the cables attached without a problem.

My SC35 went in very smooth. It took maybe 5 minutes.
It has top posts just like a stock battery. I'm pretty sure I saw the same battery at costco. But there is a chance that not all costco stores have the same items. Sometimes you see an item at costco then it is gone and doesn't come back.
