Default painting exhuast piping?

well I have a Apex I N1 and the bottom of the piping is all scratched and rusted. Would it effect anything if I sanded some of the rust off and re painted my piping with engine paint? It shouldnt do anything since its behind the cat or no?

I repainted my stromung midpipe with some high temp spray paint.. No problems yet.
