Just got an email from Mitch, Rally Blue MY98 RS from Virginia. Asked me to post this for everyone as he was the one stuck with a cut tire, left the show on a donut spare:
He made it safe and sound yesterday, all the way to VA on a donut! Also, Nate: He has your umbrella, will bring it with him to the STPR in June, 2nd & 3rd. He also said great meeting and show, great to meet everyone. How 'bout a cheer to the man squeezing the maximum life from a temporary spare!

ROFL aren't you only supposed to drive on those for like 50 miles? How far did he end up going?

Yeah, only 50 mi or so, and under 50 mph. I don't know how far Carlisle PA is from where he had to go in Virginia, but it's waay over 50 mi!
For some reason he couldn't post, so he asked me to. Hopefully when he can he'll relay some bits of the story here! I can say that Sat. night after the show he went exploring, found a dirt road, decided to have some fun in the woods. Next thing ya know, he's changing a tire in the woods. Cut a tire in a pothole. Talk about bad luck/good luck! |

He wanted to know where some good mud was, so I pointed him to the spot. Well, he found it. He did say, it did happen after he left mud-boggin, about a half mile down the road...

Well, I figured out that I would post a little info about my trip back.
First,Thanks Andy, for helping me to find a muddy road. I stayed off of the Interstates as much as possible on my way back down to Norfolk. I found a real nice back road taking me over to Rt 15 north of Gettysburg. Luckily Rt 15 has two lanes heading south. So, put the flashers on and set the cruise for 50 mph. all the way down through Virginia to Warrenton. Where I caught 17 South..at Fredericksburg I had to hop up on I-95 South, because they run together for a couple of exits. That was the hairiest part of the trip. Speed limit 65 most people doing 75-80 and me puttering along at 50... I just hope I didn't ruin the RS's reputation along the way. Back onto 17 south until I-64 in Newport News. It was a very scenic ride. But, I wont recomend it if you are trying to get somewhere. I want to thank all of you for your attempts at helping me in this situation. I have a full size spare for the trip to STPR as well as the donut. which still has plenty of tread. |
