You guys have ONE thing... longer wheelbase, which causes the short overhang. There's TWO more.

NO cheating by referencing the orignal pic either!!

P.S. I didn't touch the fog lights and that outboard faux intake had to be touched-up because I screwed it up while lengthening the wheelbase, so it doesn't count.

No, no, no, no. You guys(gals) are looking toooo deeply!

Hint: When BMW makes an "M" series, they only do a few things to the exterior. Although bigger wheels and lowered suspension being two items, I haven't mastered Photoshop yet to accomplish those.

P.S. This exercise helped enlightened me as to why Subaru spent a boat load of money on a new platform and NOT lengthen the wheelbase to please most customers and compete better with others in its class... LWB cars don't help make for great RALLYing.

Thumbs up

Jewbaru gets the WALDO prize for finding the "add-ons", not to mention some Rice-A-Roni for that username.

I've always thought the short wheelbase and its resulting huge front overhang made for a compromised aesthetic. The front and lower lip were to better accent the existing side valences(sp?) add some subdued agressiveness.

Thanks for playing!

Gambit,

The BMW touches were more in a detail and proportional aesthetic philosophy than to make it look EXACTLY like one.

The long wheelbase with verrry short front overhang is very BMW. The Impreza already had a pretty agressive front fascia(huge intake & lights), but the lower lip gives it an "M" series-like agressiveness... that "chin" jutting out butchness. The rear lip helps with continuity and furthers the agressiveness. Give me another week with Photoshop and I would have changed the C-pillar too... but I like the Impreza's C-pillar fine the way it is.

This wasn't any kind of serious exercise... just me dreaming on Photoshop.

I think the shorter overhang looks a heckuva lot better and more aggressive, the round lights on the new Benzs look ok b/c of the aggressive overhang, I think. Plus longer wheelbase=better legroom, smoother ride, less cramped el-cheapo compact car feel. Bimmer 3 series are only about 4-5 inches longer than the Imprezza but feel soooo much roomier. But I think the wide, flat engine wouldn't work w/ strut towers in the middle, not rear, of the engine bay. Works ok w/ BMW's longitudinal L-6 though.
