I have ordered the Ludespeed stage 2 Turbo, boosting 5-7psi. I say this now, but am sure it will change in the future, but I will NOT boost over 7psi. I'm thinking of setting it up for 5psi on the street and pushing it to 7 at the track. I will be happy with this. Now that the kit will be coming in during Feb sometime, I will need to upgrade some stock components. the two that I see are the exhaust and clutch. Which exhaust and diameter should I run for this application? and from where can I purchase them? I don't want it to be loud! Next is the clutch. Which clutch should I buy? and from where? I don't think I will need an engine management system besides what is supplied in the kit, but let me know if I missed anything. Also can someone tell me where to get the Subaru accessory center gauge pod, minus gauges of course. How much will that run? If anyone can help me out on these I would be very thankful - I am new to the Scooby world, but have learned so much in the last 2 months I have owned my car.
Thanks, Nirmit

I would like to know also (I'm getting the Ludespeed Stage 2 also
)As for the clutch, The ACT clutch has followers on this board and I think that would be the one to go with. You will definetly need one. Right now, my car with only a 50hp shot of Nitrous slipps the clutch pretty bad in first and a little in second. Eric |

With my 5-7 psi turbo, I went with stock clutch and fried it the thrid day. ACT clutch saved the day (as did the 12lb flywheel).
For exhaust, I went with a JC Sports 2.5" one piece stainless steel custom welded catback with Aerospeed "Bomb" muffler. Larry |

The only two clutch upgrades available right now are ACT's and Exedy's.
I am working on getting some GBs together on new clutches and flywheels. We'll see...give me a few weeks to get my house in order. Technically, I'm supposed to be applying for college right around now. ![]() Oh, and if you want a full catback manufactured by an aftermarket company... TRi Tuning used to stock several, including a 5Zigen one that was pretty fairly priced. Alternately, you could call a couple other places and see what they have. Most people just get a custom catback at a muffler shop with a generic Borla on there. [This message has been edited by Overtime (edited December 05, 2000).] |

Larry, how long have you had the turbo and clutch? how have they held up? If you don't mind from where and how much did you get it?
Thanks, Nirmit |

I have the Minnam stage 2 kit (with some RalliSpec modifications). The stock clutch did not hold up very long, even at 5psi or so. I'm now using the Primitive 4-puck clutch with a MY99 pressure plate. I've had this setup for almost 20K miles without a problem. It's definitely not a commuter clutch, though, so if you sit in traffic regularly, I wouldn't recommend it. As for exhaust, I'm using a custom 2.5" setup with an Aerospeed muffler. (The exhaust was done by *gasp* a Mustang *gasp* performance garage.

I got the turbo in the JC Sports Group buy $1999 (5-7 psi like the ludespeed) and had it installed the weekend of 10/13/00.
The ACT went on at JC Sports two weeks later for $750 installed (normally about $850, but I got a break on the labor). The one piece exhaust was a special one-off deal, but I believe a two piece JC catback is about $475 in 2.5" - They might be able to do a one piece again, but shipping is a lot more. So far it is holding up well. Larry [This message has been edited by ImprezaRS dot com (edited December 06, 2000).] |

I'm not in the market, (yet), but have read good things about the Clutchmasters Stage 3 clutch. A few on this board have it, and say it feels like stock only it will hold over 300 hp. Do a search in the old technical forum for "clutchmasters". The advantage over the ACT is that it's more drivable, but some prefer the quick grab of the ACT. You might want to read cautionary tales of some blowing their trannys with a more powerful clutch as well...

I have a Minnam Stage II, with Shiv's tech II setup. I have put almost 10,000 miles on it. I tried using the stock clutch, because I was waiting for my ACT. Bad idea. It would barely held 3psi. My act has held up flawlessly. I believe it is easier to use than stock, and is also more enjoyable.
When my Minnam kit went in I also had Rallispec make me up a custom 3" SS mandrel bent ApexI N-1 exhaust. It is loud and nasty, just the way I like it. Since then I have also had Rallispec make me up a 3" catless downpipe and dumptube, useing the same materials. You can hear the turbo so much more with this setup. I whurls out the exhaust like a DSM! MattC |
