How does this compare with aftermarket alarm systems? I just had my factory alarm ripped out yesterday and replaced with a Viper 800, complete with prox sensor and backup battery.. Do aftermarket alarm manufacturers have any warranty in case the car is stolen, etc.?

That has got to be the stupidest thing anyone has ever started on the board? Were you droped on your head as a baby? Has anyone ever had a car replaced under warranty because it was stolen??? NO!!!! Subaru makes no claim that it is impossible to steal one of their cars, it is called a theft deterent. The most any alarm company would be willing to do would be to cover your insurance deductible (and you have a have a very good professionally installed one), Did you graduate high school?, im sure ive asked soom stupid guestions and im sure i will ask more but this takes the cake.

Geez, Brivalen. Take it easy! For somebody who thinks he sounds so intelligent, I would think you'd be interested in answering the question and not ripping somebody up one side and down the other.

It wouldn't be a warranty claim because there's nothing in your warranty information about it. If you think about it, any warranty only covers defects in material and workmanship (assembly). What would be defective from a materials or assembly standpoint about an alarm that sounded yet the car was still stolen?

And if the thief cut the cables to the alarm/battery, wouldn't that void any assumed warranty, just as modifications to any other part of the car could void the warranty?

Some alarm companies promote their products by offering to pay the insurance deductable if your car should happen to get stolen with their system on your car...but no one makes a claim such as you are looking for.

I was just curious bro... If you noticed, I all but said I know it's not covered...And like I did say, it is just something to ponder.

Eric,
Get gap insurance. My current insurance has something called the keeper. If my car is totaled, They will replace it with the current model. My balance owed stays the same and so does my payment. The car has to be findable though. If it is stolen and never found, Tough turkies.

I would have gotten GAP insurance if I would have purchased the car. Since I leased (three year in anticipation of the WRX)it has built in GAP insurance

1410, National Honor Society, National Merit Scholar, Network Engineer, college dropout. As for the alarm thing, mine has a $3000 or maybe $5000 theft guarantee.... should cover the difference if stolen.

Brivalen,

It is customary to add some smiley faces if you are joking. Since you left them out of your nasty post, we have to assume you didn't go to netiquette school, are plain mean, or forgot about them.

Which is it?

Larry

PS: would you please be more considerate of others here befor e-moderators have to edit or remove your posts?

Question A long shot but...warranty question

I know this sounds stupid and I doubt it would be covered but here's a question to ponder.

If you buy a car with a factory Alarm (Like the 2.5RS alarm) and the car gets stolen...Can you get a new car from Subaru for free under warranty? You can't prove that the alarm did or did not work...

I doubt it but humm..I wonder..

Yeah..But if you owe say $18,000 on your car and it is only worth $15,000 you have to fill in the gap and fork over $4,000
