Have a Nice Day? left middle vent has never worked

I have had my 2001 RS for two months now and was wondering if anyone else has a problem with their middle left vent not working?
The one left one right above the stereo face etc. I am going to take it in to get fixed but I do not like it when I have to wait for my new car.

All my vents work, but when I have the air flow control dial set to split the air to the floor and the vents, the left middle vent closes. I think this is to force more air to the floor.

Yeah...same here with my MY00. It just doesn't get the same air flow. If you block the others it flows fine...
Who knows?!

It's the same on all imprezas, just the way they were designed. If you close the flow on the left side vent, it will flow more into the middle, but the left mid vent will never flow that much for some reason.

By Closing the passenger side vent, it creates better air flow to the center. This is because the fan that blows air through the tubes in the passenger side footwell.

Hey all-
Has anyone taken the middle vents out and taken a look inside? Would it be possible to stick in a redirector piece of plastic?

This may sound stupid but a while ago I noticed the same thing...they had always worked before. I took off the vent cover and used a flashlight to look inside, and noticed that there was a leaf blocking the airflow to those vents. Dont know how it got there.

you can put a piece of redirecting plastic in there if you want. there is just a y-pipe type plastic in there, and it doesn't go far beyond the actualy vents themselves

i took MY00 in a long time ago and told them about this. Its not a big deal, but i figured since i paid the money, it ought to work. They said it was normal, and showed me some type of diagram of the "pipes" (not really pipes but the only word i can think of haha) and how its one big one, that splits into 2 at the end, but the right side was just made bigger for some reason.

What can i say i guess, the car has had worse problems....

Yeah, same problem with mine, had it in to be checked, and they checked it and then said it was normal (and checked other Imprezas, too).

Well I'll be damned....
Scootr..you beat me to it.
I was going to post the same thing. I have an MY00RS and took it three times to get it checked. They dismantled the whole thing and found nothing. They tested two other Impreza's and found to have the same problem. It's just the way it's made. It sucks...but there are remedies like the ones mentioned above.
