Post SCRAPPYDO needs a new set of wheels, WRX?

Well as most of the people know that know me I pulled my Colin McRae impression this sunday. So I need a new car. Kartboy put it in my head to wait for the new WRX. This seems to be a fairly good idea. Okay its a great idea. But, when is it supposed to hit dealer showrooms for purchase. May, April, when. I cant go without a car for 4 months. I am sure I am going to settle this claim as a total loss. So I can either buy an old beater car, or I can get something else...

dare I say it, besides a subaru. Who here knows when the release date is for the WRX? I dread the price hike they will want. But why buy a 2001 when the 2002 is only a couple of months away. Might as well wait.

What do you guys think..

SCRAPPYDO... unbreakable

If it were me, I'd wait to drive a WRX before buying another new car. I would buy a <$1000 "temporary transportation" vehicle until then... and also start making contact with dealers who don't plan to sell at ridiculous markup. I was thinking on Simon's site (www.imprezawrx.org) there was a list of "WRX friendly" dealers.

OK Why don't u go up to Canada and buy it? Apparently it's against the law to hike up the MSRP of any car in Canada. Yay!!!

I'd buy an old Jeep. Then drive it around until the WRX comes. This way you have an off-road beater and a nice new WRX. Or you could buy an old CRX or Civic and drive it 'til the WRX comes and sell it.

Shows how much you guys read my post "WRX News." anyway scrappy...ill say it again...

March 19 & ?? 2001, subaru will reveal their new WRX, and yes dealers dont know the date, but that date is almost confirmed for the reveal, i say wait, put a holdin fee down so u can be the first to get one, and get a choice off any of the lots, sounds like u got money to spend, so buy a cheap raggy car and then buy ur WRX

Since it is 6 months I say it doesnt matter what car you get. Go look in the paper and get any car that is waaay below blue book value. An Civic Si for $1k below BB vs. a Ford Crown Vic for $3k below, GET THE VIC! In six months you can sell it for what you paid for it.

You don't exactly have to get a beater. You could get a used civic(around a 96' or 97') for about $8000. Honda's hold their value so well, you could probably sell it for the same amount or for like $7500 in March. My parents had a civic for a year until it got totaled. The apraised value from the insurance company was $600 less than what they bought it for a year earlier.

from what my local dealer said, they will be bringing a minimum amount of new WRX's in, but its not capped, you should be able to custom order anytime and get what you want.

the new WRX isn't a capped limited production run or anything, its not like 5000 S2000's they made for the US.

Just one thing you might want to think about. We don't really know how many WRX's we will be getting, so its possible that the demand for them could be quite high. I'd recomend you put a deposite on one at a dealer, if you want to be sure that you get one in March. If you do though, make sure you get it in writing that the car will be sold for MSRP, with the options and maybe even the color that you want on it. That way you don't get screwed.

Thats good advice folks. If its march I can live without a car for that long, maybe. It depends. If I can find another beater car, then its worth doing. If is may or later, then I cant see getting a beater. Its to risky. I need to have reliable transportation for my job. So this is a strange situation. I will let you know what my decision is.
