Default Which state don't require vehicle inspections?

Here in Illinois, there are no vehicle inspections. This is something of a shock to me, since in NJ, vehicle inspection is heavily enforced.

So I was wondering, what states (other than Illinois) don't require vehicles to be inspected?

MN has no inspections. MO for the most part does... but apparantly if you are rural enough you are except (or maybe just some rural counties don't have the law).

no scheduled inspection whatsoever in Kansas, smog or safety.

there is a safety inspection done by a state trooper after a vehicle has been titled as non-highway and you want to bring it back to a full title... but even that is easy.

I legally ride a fricken XR650R enduro on the street fercryingoutloud. I know someone that has a street-legal 2 stroke, not sure how the heck he pulled that off...

Montana, North Dakota, Oregon (save the big cities with emissions testing) Colorado, save emissions testing.

Indiana=zero inspections
Virginia=state inspection that is the usual brakes, etc. IIRC, it is the same inspection as used by TX. Up in Northern Virginia, they have smog testing in addition to state inspection.

Doesn't NY only have the safety inspection but no emissions test? Then again my cars registered there and I haven't done an inspection in a long time. They only require that I get it done when I reenter the state with the car.

I think OK also has no required inspection.

[PA rant]
In DE, we have 5 yrs on new cars. For older cars, it's every 2 yrs, $20/year. State inspection lane, in and out.

But I'll be a Pennsylvanian soon. PA inspection regs suck some major arse. Once per year, at privately owned shops, at least $70 a pop, by appointment. Conflict of interest, anyone?

South Carolina doesn't require and inspections. I bought my car in North Carolina almost 2 years ago and I still have the same (NC) inspection sticker.

Maybe one day I'll remove it...

yeah PA totally sucks... but when you buy a brand new car alot of dealers will give you free inspections forever on the car. of course this is only a money making scheme because when you eventually need repairs they can rape you for that.

Confirmation...

No inspections whatsoever in Oklahoma, for the last 4 years or so. Even when they did it was just $5/year mechanical inspection. No sniffing.

All of NY requires safety inspection. If your car is registered in certain areas, mainly downstate, an emissions test is required as well. If you're well upstate or out in a rural area it's safety only.

Washington only requires inspections for vehicles with salvage titles. Used to require all out-of-state vehicles to be inspected, but not anymore.

Certain areas require emissions testing though - Seattle metro area for sure, perhaps Everett and Tacoma now.

Correct. The state government did away with emissions about two years ago. Though we still have a tax on you northerners that move down here with your car.
