Default questions about emissions and mileage when doing turbo upgrade

when u start bumping up into fuel pumps, ihi vf30's, sti injectors... what happens with emissions? i have mandatory testing where i live which involves an idle test and a driving test on a dyno. was wondering if i could still pass on a stock ecu without having to pull everything out?

also wondering if my mileage will get worse under normal driving conditions? with gas prices going sky high well....

You will be super rich if you are running STi injectors at more than idle. If you are tested on a AWD dyno under load, you will probably not pass with those injectors on stock maps.

If you use stock injectors and exhaust bits, there will be no problems at all. The turbo alone will not make you fail inspection, the 550 injectors without proper management most likely will, without some engine management or fuel control.

as odd as it may seem, the only thing they look for in the visual inspection is the last catalytic converter under the car. they don't care about the first two, as long as there is one visible, which is why i couldn't buy an MRT downpipe because the cat is too high up to be seen from under the car... they also don't care about the turbo... i could be running something out of a kenworth and they wouldn't be any wiser

i've been sitting on the fence for some time now not knowing what to do... the plan was to do this:

ihi vf30/34 (still looking)
fujitsubo exhaust manifold/uppipe (sitting in a box )
turboxs stealthback w/cat (in transit)
prodrive WR axleback (on car)
sti 550cc injectors (also in a box)
turboxs UTEC stage3 (in my dreams! )
walboro fuel pump (or sti?) (if i can find one)

i mentioned stock ecu because i was under the misconception it would fail for sure with UTEC mapping

if this fails, i'm just going to sell the injectors and get a monster TD04 done by deadbolt and be happy?

Well, I think that if you run a bigger turbo, even just a Deadbolt version of the TD04, you're probably going to lean out with the stock injectors and pump. Just a theory, mind you, since I've never tried it.

Question - does your area actually have an AWD dyno to test emissions on? Most of the dyno-test emissions areas I'm familiar with don't have AWD dynos, so you get to just do the idle test and be happy.

Good luck!

we used to do just idle, but just recently they retrofitted all the testing stations with an awd dyno just for awd and cars with traction control

That's just nasty. I guess it's time to move to Sasketchawan?

How about a ECU reflash? Cheaper than a UTEC although not as cool. You definately need to lower the injector voltages with larger injectors or you will run super rich and not pass. Plus you will lose power with such a low AFR.
