Default my airbox is cracked....bad?

my car has been whistling at higher rpms for a while, and i think its because my airbox is cracked. i dont mind the whistle but is crack bad? does it depend on which side of the filter it is on?

if bad, i think i might be forced to upgrade for fear of losing my life. recommendations?(cheap) maf adaptor + cone filter?

thanks guys

andrew

you didnt throw a CEL?

why not just get a CAI and throw away the cracked airbox

why are you in fear of losing your life because of this?

Crack is bad mmkay.

There are a coupla ways to look at this.

Replace with CAI, yay more noise and maybe power too.

Replace with airbox bought from someone else with CAI. Nice and stock.

If the crack isn't too big, then seal with black duct tape from the outside. Not as pretty as the other two, but most likely to cost less than $2.

thanks for your replies

took another look this morning... turns out the problem was my ignorance, not the airbox. my "crack" was actually the 2 halves not seating properly, i overlooked the catcher tab things at the bottom. all set now, but still getting a whistle 3.5k+, changes pitch at 5k rpm. i think i saw in another thread that it could be vacuum leak. not really sure what that is, but i checked all the intake hoses and connections, all seem snug.
should i be worried?

thanks, andrew

All the suggestions so far suck.

Visit home depot and purchase some quick set epoxy. Most likely it will be stronger than the surrounding plastic.
