Uh, if your body is sitting on that dirt, even the AWD can really help you. Did you really get it stuck like that?

ya i was driving down that mud road, had just rained doing like 40. the edge there is at a small incline. from a distance it looked as though it connected to the hwy. well it didnt, there's a 6 ft dropoff there. slammed on the brakes, stopped just in time. i kno enough to keep going as not to bog down, just was wondering if there was some way i could get it out alone in a situation like that where i have to stop.

Why didn't you just wedge some boards/sticks/rocks under your tires so you could gain traction and pull yourself out of there?

Some 4x4'ing tips...

Lower your tire pressures down to 3 or 5psi - that will lessen your ground clearance (which would be bad in a case like this), but it'll give you 10 times more grip than you have when your tires are at 30psi.

Use a shovel and dig the center of the car out a bit. You don't want to dig so much that you're removing dirt from under the front tires, but if your oil pan/crossmember/transmission is stuck in the dirt, it's going to take alot of torque to get the car to move. Dirt ownz.

Remember that, if you do lower your tire pressures to 3psi, you'll need to re-inflate them to 30 or 35psi (whatever your normal pressure is) before driving on the highway. Low tire pressures cause excessive heat buildup in tires, which is why Ford Explorers flip...

Grab some chain link to put behind your rear tires. With your viscous coupling 50:50 center diff and rear viscous LSD, both of your rear tires will have power. Boards are not nearly as good (because your tires will continue to spin on them) as a broken surface like chain link or chicken wire - think of tire chains.

BUT, if you had access to a nice bulldozer like that, it's the best option.

Mount the bulldozer tracks of the rex whenever you plan on 4 wheeling like that

Oh man this reminds me of a time some friends and I went offroading in high school. We had two cars a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 and a regular Jeep Cherokee 4x4. I was in the GC and we had two way radios to the other car. There was this massive puddle(it had snowed a few days before and started to melt) and we jokingly said over the radio to go through it. Low and behold the kid went through it, well atleast half way through. He got stuck in it. water was up to the tops of the tires! Some guys were up there with a diesel 4x4 from their work(they were apparently smoking weed up there while on company time) and they charged my friend $50. They went and got towstraps(which cost probably 20 tops) and we hooked it up to the front. We all jumped in the back of the pickup to add weight while one person drove the stuck car. We all thought the bumper was gonna come off but it didn't and the car was pulled out. The next day, they vaccumed out like 2 gallons of muddy water from the carpet with a shopvac. I luckily had a camera so I took a few shots. It was hilarious. If i can find the pictures I'll post them.
