Default how to identify stock wrx ecu?

i have a spare ecu that i've had collecting dust for some time now and i can't remember the events leading up to the purchase. i was told it was a 2002 wrx 5spd, but the label is partially torn off. all it says now is:

? 2
????11AF421
???0-7063
12V

is there a way of identifying it without plugging it in? would anything bad happen if i tried plugging it in?

You could always start by comparing the ECU pins to the ECU pinout chart for a MY02 WRX (from northursalia.com)

I recently burnt out my ECU.. The one you have is for 2002 5 speed sedan which the car was the 2nd batch out of 4 for 2002. I have the A423, (you have the A421)... engine management is slightly better than mine but that ECU runs a little bit leaner than mine.. the boost and timing maps are about the same.
