I had it in my car for 1/2 year, no problems so far, but I heared that before. I change it every 2 years anyways, no 5. So, I think it's ok.

Wonderful biased media...

The problems with Dex-Cool arises when you either run the car with low coolant (go figure) or you mix it with the green stuff. If you want to convert your car over to dex cool, flush your car out with fresh water a few times.

Thumbs up no problem with Dex-Cool

Problem is the dumb car owners actually think that the long-life coolant never needs to be changed. If you change it every 2 years or 30k miles (whichever comes first), then there is no problem. One or two GM V-6s has problems due to poorly designed cooling systems but that's it.

I have been using Dex-Cool in all my Subarus for years.

On the other hand, you can now get Subaru OEM coolant, so I see absolutely no reason to use anything else. Back when I first started using Dex-Cool, the dealerships would say "what Subaru antifreeze?!!" whenever I asked.

The whole point about Dex-Cool is safely being able to use it for 5 years, 150k miles. Personally, if I'm gonna change coolant every 2 years then I wouldn't even bother with Dex-Cool, I'd just use the regular stuff.

Is Subaru coolant silicate and phospate-free like the extended life ones.

There is no way I am ever going to keep antifreeze in my car for over 3 years. No matter what the manufacturer claims.

The "regular stuff" does not meet Subaru's no silicates requirement. I have not seen any "regular" antifreeze in the US retail that contains no silicates. Phosphate-free is not a requirement specified by Subaru.
