Question Brake Pads - Under Warranty...

When I had my 4 warped brake rotors replaced under warranty a few months ago, the dealership (Santa Monica Subaru) told me I needed new brake pads soon too (on MY dime).

However, they said if I waited until they were down to 1% (or this number could have been 10%, I cant remember), that Subaru has an interesting policy that they will replace them under warranty. So he suggested I wait.

Does anyone have experience with this? Has anyone had brake pads replaced, and had them covered under warranty? Do you remember what the percentage left needs to be for them to cover it? (1% or 10%??)

It's probably about time for me to have them looked at again, and I'd rather not pay the $200 or so if possible.

Thanks

I have never heard of that. We will replace pads under warranty only if they are defective i.e. cracked or worn unevenly due to a problem with the caliper.

In any case...letting your pads go till they are down to 1 % is not safe at all.

Perhaps what the guy meant was that because my rotors were warped (thus causing uneven wear?), they would replace them under warranty, but only if they were worn-down a certain amount more... I wonder if his statement only applied because my rotors were shot.

Question Hmmmmm...

Well, that I don't know. Perhaps the dealer likes you and wants to keep you as a customer and is willing to do that for you. We have done stuff like that before also...

Try to get it in writing though so they don't go back on their word.

if you have to get the pads changed you can get them for way less than 200. I have Axxis Ultimates up front and Metal Masters in the rears and they totaled less than $100. If you are inclined to working on your car they are not hard to change out and scooby mods has a pretty good write up.
