Well I guess I am the n00b around here and its interesting getting on a new place... I have been working on Honda's for about ten years and have gotten tired of ricers and know it alls ruining the rep for the true honda enthusiasts. I am the new owner of a GF8 Impreza and am enjoying the hell out of the power and lack of. So here is my question:
I am wanting/going to swap out the 1.8l out for either the EJ20DET or DETT still debating (input on that would be great). I am leaning more towards the TT. I see on here the versions on all that but like I said I am a new Suby owner dont understand all that. If some enlightment could be shed on that it would greatly appreciated. My brother and I own a Tuner shop in Texas (he is the sole owner now, I had to move on), but we have connections in Japan and I want to get the engine direct from Japan. I am wondering what all I will need and what extra's I will need to get. Frustration of not knowing everything about my car grows and I am here to absorb. Also how will or if the EJ18 bolt up and or handle the power of the turbo. Also what type of turbo's besides the IHI will bolt to the EJ turbo manifolds What kind of mods do you all recommend on the tranny side to handle this kind of horse I am really looking to build a 300+ hp daily driver since that is what it will be while I have my 240SX under the knife for 8 months? TIA and I look forward to posting here and making it my new home on the web!

hey- the tt motors are reportedly configured (pipingwise) so that u cant fit it on a LHD car. u could convert it to RHD (what i wnat to do to mine), but i dunno if an impreza could fit it even if it was RHD. tt is a legacy motor. im sure uve heard of the mad debates against twin turbo - FD, supra, etc. and the concensous here at least is to simply do a normal singleturbo impreza motor swap and call it a day. if u can pull of a TT swap however, u are a pimp.
powerwise the single is just as good, ridiculous skills wise, tt would own. also, from wiring standpoint, the impreza harness (if u buy a whole JDM clip) will be pretty close to plug/play --- a couple people have done it sucessfully, and im trying myself rite now. h |

thanks for the insight, I know with the RX7 and the Supra we did a lot of single turbo conversions and the gain was substantial. I think I would much rather go with the single but the boxer engine just seems to be built for twin. That is my debate...
On the Single side which motor is the easiest to swap in? (mind you this is my daily driver, I love a challenge but, lets face it it can not be out of commission for too long). I will end up picking up a front clip and just need to know which is best for the 93 Integra L. Also I looked at a 2.5 RS exhaust that we had a while back and it looks identical to the 93 I have. Alot of manufacturers say it is for the 95+ 2.5 RS but it looks the same. I have also researched components and the aftermarket support is decent for the 1st gen subaru's, I definetly expected worse YAY... Anyone know of some good places to get parts... and that have wholesale so I can hook my brother up? I like this place I have been doing some lurking and kudos to the NASIOC! Great job guys. If you are in the Rocky Mountain Region look me up at www.highaltitudeimports.com Great place for tuners to hang out sign up and tell them mugenracer sent ya...lol |

Agreed the boxer is a nice setup for tt, but the problem in the impreza is there's not much room to mount those. Not to mention if you made them sequential (as in the legacy) it's always hard to properly set them up. That was one of the criticisms for the legacy the transition was not smooth. It didn't have tt to make more power just better driveability, ironically though it didn't really help. I'm assuming you meant a front clip for an "Impreza" L. Anyway, the cheapest would be an older jdm wrx front clip. 2000k could get you one. If your lucky you find a nice sti v2 one. My choice would be either a newer usdm wrx front clip as they'll still be cheaper than some newer jdm front clips, and reading wiring diagrams might be easier as their both in engrish. My choice though would be a nice v5 or v6 sti front clip. You could have the alum. control arms, brakes, radiator, steering wheel and gauge cluster, not to mention a kick arse package. Try to get an RA version too. Also try v6 as v5's are debated as not cooling as well as the v6. This will be more expensive of course but awesome package. Most expensive and the best would be a newer gdb model front clip, ie. v7 or v8 with 6speed and nice gold brembo's. It might be cheaper to just get an engine and a tranny when you need it, but there's nothing wrong with getting a full front clip. That was a rather long post i'd say. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, I really think I will try to get an STi Ver6 but have opted as back up the STi Ver5RA cooling can be adjusted by different setups (ie. Thermostats and radiators with dual fans), plus I live in Colorado...LOL.
I am making the call tomorrow to see what I can hook from Japan... till then thanks... Also I have done all the wiring on all my hybrids myself, and have noticed in the FAQ's that they mention companies that do the conversions... I hate wiring the last twelve I have done I have gotten extreme headaches from them and opt "not too" this time. If ne one has the links to companies that do this, it would be appreciated... ALso on the crossmember what is this about the downpipe? I know my SR20 in the 240 didn't need one but putting together the Rb swap for it now it will need one for clearance, same with the impreza? Thanks all I know I will have more questions later as I get closer but I greatly appreciate you all... Thanks |

don't worry if your getting a front clip it will come with a turbo crossmember and the right downpipe. The issue is the turbo downpipe won't fit a non turbo xmember. That's all.

Please take the DET and DETT out of your Subaru vocabulary. Those designations just don't exist. Subaru engines are designated like EJ20, EJ25, and then to get more specific you'll get something like EJ205 or EJ207. That whole DET and DETT thing seems to be coming from a site that sells engines, I think it may be Nippon motors. Those are Nissan designations.
