Have a Nice Day? Talk me into this..Talk me outta that..

With all due respect to the new posters amongst us... Please do a little searching, and less of these type posts. I find them inflammatory and annoying. If you are considering the purchase of a new vehicle, why should someone here "talk you out of it???".

theyre just asking for other people's opinions, different brand owners etc... i dont see anything wrong with it...
its kind of annoying yeah but no one is really forcing you to click on the topics

although maybe i would think they should go on off-topic instead of general

How about this idea? Why don't we just stop all new posts and just leave this site up as a database? That would get newbies to do more searching.

I think the opinion posts are different from the 'talk me into, talk me out of' posts.

I nearly posted a topic like this earlier today. I know a lot of people are making decisions now, what with all the press and the new car coming out...

Still, this is a big expense for most people, can't they make the decision on their own?

A topic 'Tell me what you think about the Integra Type R vs. the WRX' is entirely different from 'Talk me out of a Type R'

One is collecting data, the other is just asking people to make justifications for you. I can't stand when people can't make their own decisions, though I am always really happy to give my opinions on things to help people make their choices.

Maybe that defines it a little better?

PS: The worst is when people post the 'talk me into, talk me out of' topic onto two boards...

'Talk me out of WRX' on ClubSI and 'Talk me out of Type R' on i-Club.

well said Kelly. Unfortunatly we are being driven by the lowest common denominator here. Truthfully it seems the bar has been getting lower and lower for the last six months or so.

Thumbs down

Not "Trying" to be anything here, merely suggesting a way to get info that probably already exists.

I agree with M8's assessment...

Hey Kostamojen,

Usually I do just see the topic and skip it. I've read a few to see what the discussion is like, so now that the thread came up, I took the opportunity to post my opinion here rather than to post it into one of those type of threads; that's all!

With all due respect to everyone involved...are the "justification" type threads annoying? Yeah, many of them are. Have there been a lot more of them lately, sure, probably. When the initial buzz about the WRX calms down, are 85% of the casual newbies gonna quiet down or disappear entirely? I'd bet on it.

Hey, this is a consequence of the newfound enthusiasm about this car and the fun you can have with it. That's a good thing! Think of this as growing pains. The casual will fade away and the true enthusiasts will stay...in the end, the i-club gets stronger as does the Scooby community. Me, I'll sit here and grin and bear it and enjoy the ride. Besides, it occasionally happens that a "newbie" scoops or teaches a "specialist" a thing or two.

um well as for the new guys leaving after a while, i dont know... on clubsi, the site keeps getting bigger and bigger (and dumber and dumber)

hint: the people that make the site like that, are usually NOT Si owners, most of them post in Si vs all (Trash talk) and they are V8 owners, Nissan owners, and other Honda/acura owners...
there are very few ACTUAL SI owners who trash talk... and they keep it on that forum..

Plus, forums are for discussion. Some of these people spend 12 hours a day on this board, so to say "ugh, these posts waste my time" is kinda redundant. As easy as it is to "do a search," it's just as easy to ignore a thread that doesn't interest you.

That having been said, should I get a WRX or a Rolls Royce?

I don't like them either but I don't read them.

My feeling is that a person should know whats important to them. Then find out about the cars via reading either online or mags and the if they are still intersted they should go test drive. Did it live up to what you want? If so then buy it. If everything fits your desires then you need to be picky and really ask yourself what matters. I hate having to go vehical shopping because I want everything and a little uniqueness and all this for less than a mint.

There is an incredible archive of information here. When I first got my Impreza, I spent hours reading the historical posts before I posted for the first time. Yet, newbies come in here and before reading anything asks a question that has been asked within the past three days!

Do you walk into a library and go to the card catalog, or do you barge up to the librarian and ask where all the books are?

There's no excuse for that. Do you think your time is more valuable than everyone elses? This forum has helped me immeasurably, and I feel obligated to give back by helping others with what I've learned. Please don't waste my time!

I don't know about "inflammatory," but I do know they are ANNOYING.

I've been reeeeeeaally tempted lately to answer with some sarcastic reply like,"Get some nads and a spine and make your OWN $%&*!@#$ decision!" But I refrained and just overlook them. You just have to do like me and say to yourself,"What an idiot." and go on to a more interesting topic. Relax, man.

P.S. I actually get infuriated more over the lack of SPELLING skills that frequent these forums. I won't ever win a spelling bee, but some of the mistakes I see in here are an atrocity. Our educational system and the 'perps' need a solid kick in the ass!

I can identify with your frustration.

It IS important to be friendly and try to be helpful in directing people to use proper 'nettiquette' in getting their questions answered, though.

We don't want to gain a reputation as being a group of grouchy, unfriendly people.

Sometimes I will do a search when people post a question and link in the pertinent articles. This will help them see that a lot of the info they need is already archived in the board.

(Who is VERY impressed when a newbie sites old postings when asking a question.)
