Post Engine swap or turbo kit

what do you guys think i should do?
Engine swap or get a turbo kit
i saw on ebay few weeks ago of a 97 StI impreza engine with 280 hp (not sure) and i think the bids went up to about 3K which costs about as much as the turbo kit

This topic has been discussed to death on this board numerous times and you will find a wealth of info by simply clicking on the search button by the "Post Reply" button near the top of the page.

However, that being said, if I were to summarize a lot of info in two or three sentences, it would be as follows:

Swapping a turbo EJ20(WRX, STi) or EJ22(Legacy turbo) engine into an RS is as expensive or more expensive than a turbo for the RS. The numerous EJ25 turbo owners on this board will tell you that as long as an EJ25 has proper fuel management, it good for easily 300+ hp. The weak link is the tranny, even on the ones that come with the EJ20/EJ22 motors.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions, but this question ultimatley belongs in the Newbie forum.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
MB

If I were starting with a 1.8l Id build up a 2.2l block and put an aftermarket turbo on it. 1.8l wont get you enough power, and 2.2l blocks are cheap. Trouble with the SOJ engines is that they are tuned to run on higher octane than we have readily available. Either way you're looking at a fairly expensive build.
