Exclamation Help! Lights won't stop flashing after battery disconnected.

I disconnected the battery on my GT to clean the posts after it wouldn't start. Reconnected, started up and now all the lights but the headlights flash on and off for one min. then stop then start flashing again. The parking light switch on the dash is not the problem and it keeps doing this even when the car is off! There is no alarm system on the car either.

Any help, Please?

It's now out front with the battery disconnected.

I had the same problem, it is the keyless entry going into program mode. If I rember correctly just hit the lock and unlock button on the remote and it will stop.

I thought there might be something with the remote. I don't normally use it but dug it out and it didn't do any thing. I figured dead battery, so I pulled the battery out of my RS remote put it in the GT remote and still nothing even though it worked in the RS remote. So I'm still stuck. Any other ideas?

I ran into this same problem just yesterday. Do you have a security system on the car and or alarm system in your head unit? I know it has something to do with one of these 3 things. Keyless entry, security system or head unit. I'm sorry i can't be more specific but i know these are the things i narrowed it down too.

No security/alarm system, if there's a security system built into a 98 GT standard radio I never heard about it.

Seems I remember someone saying you could pull one of the two 30 amp green fuses under the hood and reset the ECU but don't remember which. And, would it do me any good now anyway? I think if you pull the wrong one you end up with the same problem so maybe I should just pull one then the other if the first didn't do it.

Maybe this'll work.. I've seen this solution offered up for a couple different problems:

To override the Security System (in the event of a lost or broken transmitter): Unlock the vehicle with the key and open the door. The alarm will sound. Insert the key into the ignition switch and cycle it from the LOCK to ON position three times within five seconds, and the system will be disarmed

My GT has a small yellow sticker just ahead of the radiator with instructions (I missed this sticker when I changed batteries at Western Auto, and drove home with the lights flashing ) Anyway, it says to either:
  • Click the unlock button on the remote, or
  • Turn the ignition to the "run" position and press the programming button (?) under the dash for one second.

I don't know where the programming button is, exactly, but I guess if you don't have a working remote that's your only hope, obi-wan.

Danno, The programming button did the trick!
It's behind the hood release. A little black plastic, small thimbal sized cup with a button in it you push straight up. Held it about 5 sec. instead of the 1 the instructions on the yellow tag in front of the battery said and when I heard the door lock I let go. Same instructions, marked "Keyless Entry System" were on a loose paper in the car manual folder with a picture. I think the same type of button on the RS is under the steering wheel and a little to the left. You can use it to program more or less remotes, in case one is lost or stolen.

Thanks everyone!
