Default Major Engine Problems!

I dunno what's wrong.. it's a 1998 Forester.. Went to do some Laundry.. And went to try and pull the car in backwards to make it eazy to load.. Started the car like normal and the car stalled!!

I tryed again.. and it stalled again.. We did get the car used at 62K miles.. about 4 months ago it has 70K miles on it now.. It did not go for it's 62K mile tune-up..

Btw the car when I had the rpms to 4K to keep it from stalling it backfired once. Also when driving home the "AT Oil temp" light started flashing..

What could it be? Spark plugs? I know I wanted to change those soon.. I know they must be pass due but that can't be it can it? It's no fun having to not stop at stop signs due to the car stalling at each sign.. I have fath in the Subaru Boxer motor. At least the car started and allowed me to get home. If push comes to shove I can post a sound clip of it. But thats not something I really want to do... It's not a fun feeling hearing and feeling the car stall out.

Someone pllleeeaaassee help me!

Here was the problem

"Question I changed the air filter on my 98 Subaru Forester. Now after a normal start the engine quits after a few seconds if left at idle . Also AT Temp light flashes. Engine ran perfectly before I changed air filter."

I just checked the filter not changed it

"Answer There is a vacum hose on the top lid of the airbox. take a close peek you will see it right away. Just reconnect it and you should be all set. as far as the a/t oil light goes you have a code pending in your ecm concerning the transmission and it would not be related in any way to the air filter. the a/t oil temp light is best left to your subaru dealer to diagnose. There may be a significant problem or you may have just tripped a sensor(alot of people get stuck in the mud/snow in the winter and set a code.) There is nothing i can do via the internet to alleviate that concern
Best of luck
Greg Duggan"

Seems like this is a common problem on the 98 model years? I hope they fixed this in the Trubo Forester.

Huh? your saying I was slow? lol I looked up on the internet and a person had the same problem. The at oil temp light stoped flashing which ment it was throwing a code.. IMHO I would think the Check engine light would flash.. I thought I was cooking my Tranny fluid as I had to rev it press the brake and go into drive.
