Question Anyone here have/have seen an AMEX black?

I'd only heard of the myth of the legendary black American Express card.

I run a retail store so I've seen pretty much every color of AMEX, but never til today have I seen a black card in real life... kinda weird holding it...

edit: the guy that had it was a Japanese business man just being a tourist in my store... weird...

Yep..

In the spectrum of AMEX CHARGE cards (i.e. other than Blue, Optima), you have the Green, Gold, Platinum.. and then Black.

AMEX Black card holders are invitation only.. followed by, if my understanding is correct, holding an Platinum, and using it, ahh.. extensively.

Coincidentally, the annual fee for a Platinum AMEX was, at least last year, $375, and if I'm not mistaken the Black card annual fee is either $1000 or $1200.

The benefits, though, are huge.. in addition to all the usual AMEX stuff.. you'll get incredible customer service, help with all kinds of reservations, lots of help with settling disputes, great travel planning, and all manner of other perks. And, of course, no set credit line.

I've just got the reg. AMEX Green.. but my sister is a Black card holder.. at times, she says people have even thought the card was phony, not having seen one before.

edit: correction on the annual fee amount.

The guy that used it spent like $30 on a sweater... that was on sale no less!!!

Rappers need to publicize it. A black AMEX is just too cool.

Just checked..

Apparently, it is technically an Black American Express Card.. but, it's not called the AMEX Black.. the proper name is the AMEX Centurion.

Annual fee is $1000. Additional cards on same account are $375 each. Perks are everything from getting sold out tickets and reservations, all kinds of travel insurance, and having a customer service agent actually assigned to you.

Further questions, class?

Edit: You beat me too it.. need to type fastAr next time.

with the AM black card...you can have a limo at your house at anytime within a half an hour to pick you up and drive you anywhere. you can get a reservation at any hotel/restaurant/etc., get any airline tickets you want, no limit...blah blah...

i saw something about it on the travel channel a while back.

Heh, I got an "invitation" from them for an Amex Platinum. $375/yr annual fee. I looked through all the 'perks' and quite frankly, they aren't things I couldn't get anyhow spending $375 in a year.

I can't imagine what that card would have to do to get me to spend $1000/yr in an annual fee. I'll stick with my no fee Blue.
