He said that the color was the limited edition, ie, a special run of just that color otherwise the same as the other cars. The yellow was apparently the first color available. He didn't say how many yellow WRXs would be made, but he did say that it wouldn't be very many and that after the other colors arrive the yellow would be discontinued. Didn't they do this with the RS? Was it red or green that was only in '98?

Hmmm real question.. how much for a body shop to do a good paint job vs expected mark-up for the "special edition" that is only a different paint color.

YAH! I can't wait! I have a '97 Prelude SH and it's just not happening for me. I am STRONGLY considering being one of the first in the country with a brand new Impreza turbo. Thanks for the info!
P.S. This is my FAVORITE message board on the internet. Everyone is SO nice to each other unlike a lot of other message boards like Honda-Acura.net, Supraforums.com, NSXPrime.com...etc. (Thanks everyone!) |

Does anyone know when the base model (non-Turbo) will arrive? Are all the new models coming at the same time like everywhere else (UK, AU), or is it WRX first, then other models around August/September?
Thanks! |

The WRX is being launched first and the NA models will come in later. How much later, I don't know.

Guys, not to dowse any water on the excitement fire we got going here but, $25K? I'll pay $26K and get a 2001 Audi A4. Sure less power, but it's a friggin' Audi. Lux, style, tunability....isn't the Imp supposed to be an economy racer?
$23K is all I would pay...tops. Just my NSHO. -Dog |

Go for it! The current A4 1.8TQ is 3260lb with manual tranny, over 100lb more with the tiptronic.
Everyone in their 227HP, 2950lb WRX will be envious of and your 170HP, 3260lb luxury palace. ![]() |

That's why Subaru doesn't bring cars like the P1 here... who here would ever pay $40k for a Subaru, regardless if it can slaughter M3's?

There is something to be said for going whiplash fast. There is also something else to be said for having an exec ride that your lady loves sliding her a$$ into....and then out of.
Don't flame me now...I like Impreza's. But unless my life is rally cross, I would never spend more on an Impreza than a comparable (size, AWD) Audi or equivalent. -Dog |

u woulnt pay 3k more for a car with over 60 more hp?
with 60hp more asking for over 3k over the current RS is not an unrealistic expectation by SOA not to mention better handling, and refinement an more interior room, and better overall performance, etc. [This message has been edited by SubyRacer (edited October 18, 2000).] |

The WRX and the A4 1.8T are very different cars, based on performance and target customer. When you say comparable Audi, you should compare the WRX with the S4, both are sports car with similar performance.

My lady loves the leather heated seats in my VW. I anticipate loving the accelleration and handling of the WRX.

Maybe I need to state it in a different way: The perceptions of the car are different. Imprezas, even the 02 (which isn't worth a dime more in styling money than the 01)have a very "ricey" or "boy racer" or at least "street car" look to them. The Audi offers a more upscale, "grown up" view on driving enthusiasts. I like both cars.
For the money though, count me out on the Impreza. It would have to be REALLY redesigned to compete with the Audi in my book. Better interior, better ride, and definitely better, more grown up styling. -Dog |

Erm.. Audi's don't break, and if they do EVERYTHING is covered under warranty.
oil changes? covered. wiper blades? covered. new tranny? covered. And so on. I'd take a 225 horse TT quattro over the new imp anyday.. The new Impreza has too many doors ![]() |

A4s are supposed to have great reliability - and unlike Subarus - THE DEALERS HAVE PARTS IN STOCK ! - whew.
Still, after conferring with Mrs. - I've decided to pay my car off, and apply its trade-in value to a 2002/03, when I'm done - maybe the new SVX, if it happens. I'm still not impressed with the cost/reliability/hassle issues of even the best DIY turbos. I'm not buying a new transmisson out-of-pocket. Period. I don't mind the four doors, especially having seen the 44s WRC now. The styling grew on me, and I think the price will be decent. Even 27k would be okay for me. Better than trying to turn the RS into something it's not. |

Audi's don't break? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
What Audi's have you been looking at? I know my parents '87 has done nothing but break, it's a solid car I'll give it that, but there is always something that needs to be fixed and it ain't cheap. In fact that car hasn't moved in the past yr and half. One of my best friends drives a V8Q, he loves that car, but it too always has something wrong. The electrical system sucks. Maybe you should say new Audis don't break. Of course most new cars don't. |

Just to show what you guys know about the Impreza.
to compare an Audi A4 to an Impreza Turbo?????? are you out of your minds! ![]() the car which beat M3 and 911 http://www.subaru.co.nz/autocar_feat...r_content.html the car which was voted as "Car of the decade" in England, do you have any idea what are you talking about? the A4 is a family car, no more! (and I'll take a Legacy GT over it), even your mighty S4 isn't a match for the Scoob, just say thank you for getting it with even more power than in Europe (220 Vs 227), or maybe SOA were right and many of you guys just won'y appriciate the car and thats why they didn't bring it sooner, and no reason to bring the 300hp new STI 'cause you'll be able to buy for same money an A6, WOW ![]() |

By the time you put the money into mods on an A4 that it would cost you to buy that car, the Audi would have 300 horses, and still be one of the most luxurious cars in the world.
But, I like the thought of us finally getting somewhere close to a powerful stock turbo car in the new Impreza, maybe it will sell big, and open up a lot of the other manufacturer's eyes. Bring on the S3! -Dog |

Bottom line
RS is a "street car" "economy racer" - (as alpha put it) dressed up to look like a race car the wrx is a race car, pure and simple (old style anyway) audi's and bimmers are luxary cars that are fast and look sleak and grown up. EDIT: dog, he was talkin bout the STi which comes stock close to 300hp, not modded to 300hp. S3 in the states? now thats a scary thought ![]() [This message has been edited by SubyRacer (edited October 18, 2000).] |

If this is true, I may put a deposit down on one and see what happens.
Notice I said if it's true because unless Subaru releases a PR, then it's not set in stone and may not be true, and I just put it in my rumor bin ![]() JJ |
