I'm 18, got full scholarship to college and a decent job at a market research firm. So college money plus a lil help from me equals beautiful car. I have it under my parents insurance, so it's only $1,500 a year.

Cool

I was 17 when I bought my RS. Key word I. I then saved my ass off, and by the time I was 18 I stuck a Minnam Stage II on it. So, I guess I am the youngest turbo impreza owner in the US!

If you are still dependent on your parents for anything, I dont count that as owning.

More of a gift from your parents.

LAMO...you mean buying the car at FIFTEEN with your own money and making the final payments on your OWN doesn't count as owning..well then count me out...lol...have had the car about a year, and love it to death and in a couple of months i will be 17, and i have a my98, with a my00 front bumper, oz supert's, parada tyres, sti control arms, new cv's new front and rear axles, some motor work, and will be full blown rally spec in i hope 2 or 3 years...by full blown i mean i could motor on over to fia and get bgroup b certified. YUMMY stuff...really yummy. OH and this winter, i will be going forced induction at 15lbs to start with, a modest number, but will then be cranking it up as soon as bottom end work is done on the pig. how's 300+ horse at the wheel sound? along with hopefully a paddle shifted tranny...that or reg. STI closeration and adjustable centre differntial, and uprated suspension from prodrive.

enuf outta me for now...huh?

oh, and that is ALL my OWN money, and i work 70 hours a week in summer, and during school i average 30/40 hours PLUS schooling...sukky i know, but i do what i gotta to have fast toys...although a hyabusa came into my view yesterday and i may buy that and hold off on turbo...i dunno....

Have a Nice Day?

How the heck do you afford a new car at 15? Or for that matter 18?

I'm 17, and after working 6 hours of disgusting, no-one-else-wants-to-do-it manual labor on my last weekend before school cleaning out a barn I earned 90 bucks. That's a lot...

But earning the $5000 for a downpayment, the $1000/6 months for insurance (assuming you're on your own policy and it's not perfect), and the $400/month for the car payment...plus any parts along the way... heck I thought I was going to earn maybe $2500 this summer (before I decided to go to Brown University for a summer semester) and that would be working full-time, or close to it.

It just blows my mind. I didn't purchase my car. I'm not spoiled, or at least, I don't like to think of myself as such...but I am very blessed to have what I have and I understand that. I have to work to maintain the car but I didn't have to purchase it. That's a heck of a gift and I'm still reeling about it every day I drive.

But I just don't understand how anyone who isn't even out of college can earn enough money to pay for a brand new sports (or sporty) car plus insurance plus maintenance plus parts plus everything else in life. Where the heck are you people getting your jobs? Are most of you computer technicians? I knew they made a lot-40k to start with-but is that enough of a yearly salary for such a great car? I was at a university for the summer and I found pretty quick that I went through money fast.

40 hours a week PLUS school is just mind-boggling for me. I have never been accused of being an overacheiver, but how do you do anything on the weekends (assuming that you're not working 8 hours/day after coming home)?

Forgive me if I offend anyone-that's not my intent at all!-but I just don't see how anyone could save up $20,000 while attending some sort of school. Where are you working and where can I sign up?

LOL...weekend...what is a weekend? actually i have sunday's off and i only work untill 5pm on saturday. WOOHOO...and on friday i only work untill 9pm...but i start at *ughh* 8ish....ughh...oh well, that is life. i am no overacheiver, mind you. i just found a job, and love what i am doing and found a way to make killer cash while doing it, as well as funding my many many mtn. bikes, and trips to bike as it is rather flat in the "wunderfull" state of IL...doh!

anyhow i entered a highly specialized field and it was discovered i had a knack for it, so i was just kinda promoted and promoted. that and well, next summer i am going to go back to doing some airbrush work on the side as well as my current job. so partime artist, fulltime bike mechanic and techie on the side.

Im sorry.. what state do you live in that allows you to have your own car at 15? Almost every state that I can think of you have to be at least 15 to even get your permit. And you mean to tell me that you work 30-40 hrs during highschool? Umm... Most states have laws about that too.

Got my RS I year ago while I was 20, turned 21 like 2 mos later. Still 21 now. All on my own.... 6 yr loan, but hey, it was still a good deal.

lol...i was only 15 for a day or so when i bought the car. and we titled it under my dad's company, so i could take out the loan, it was an "employee" purchase form. as i was an "employee" of his compnay (yes he owns the company, and no i don't work for him). that is how it went, his comp. is on the title, but i pay it and it is my car as far as insurance is concerend, and you can buy a car at anyage using cash, if you take a loan, then no, but cash yes.

and no laws apply to working that much in H/S while over the age. you can get a job at freaking 14 in this state. and i am 16, 17 shortly, so no laws would mandate a max. number of hours, as all those laws stop appplying the DAY you turn 16. and i had my permit at 15, and got my liscense literally 2 days after my b/d.

so yes it is possible, i am the living example of it. weird but true...kinda like that one show, you know the one....oh well, i can't think of it right now, but you know the one i am thinking of

EDIT: don't freak out, i had my permit 8 months before i got my liscense. and i also have a grandfather who founded the daytona track ("speed" was his nickname, and he had a racing team with tony curtis. to this day we still get cards from him. i have a pic somewhere that i can scan if ya'll wish, it is my grandfather and tony curtis sitting at a desk thingie. and i have pics of my grandpa in his car, and also in their "bulance" (ambulance) that was the first (n)ascar ambulance with my aunt next to the door, and i have others with my grandma driving the bulance. hell you can go to the daytona track and see a bronze bust of him too. i know at least about 5 years ago it was still there. he actually helped to lay the bricks at that track. sadly he is no longer with us, but he was cool as heck. and that applies b/c it runs in the blood as i was taught by my father and ex-drag racer, and my other grandpa a stunt driver in the 1940's and 50's. as well as my uncle who actually still does scca stuff to this day in his porsche's.

oh yeah, and we may be pretty well off, but i bought the car and modded it with my own money. as a matter of fact, i am paying for the t/c too.

although the "toys" in my room were "gifted" to me....go figure...i will shut up now..sleep is good

The key to affording a impreza when your are 15 is ....well at least for me it is mopping floors. Yes you read it corectly. I mop floors at night at super markets and I make about 15 dollars and hour. and I just started. Unfortunatly I only work two hours in a night and only once a week. but soon I'l be working alot more. I'm not rying to brag, but my brother who worked 4 four hour nights a week made about $35,000 last year moping floors. and he is only 18. so that is my plan. and I'm not making this crap up.

baH. I've had 4 cars already. -AND im 19.

-96 Toyota Tercel (first car.. embarrasing)
-98 Toyota RAV4 (Brand NEw!)
-92 Honda Civic HB (i hate hondas...)
-99 Subaru Impreza RS (Bought new 06/99, has 25K miles on it now)

all these cars, of course have been financed by my parents with their credit - however, down payment and monthly payment and insurance had been paid with MY OWN money whether it was from working and/or allowance. Just until recently, when I started school (community college) my parents started taking payments over. oh yeah.. I get bored of cars pretty easily.. but my current car so far (impreza) still has me smiling.

well, I by NO means come from a rich family i work at the worlds largest producer of stainless steel welded pipe and i make $9.44 an hour (not bad for a 19 yr old) i saved up about $10,000 from there cause i live at home and all i pay for is car payment($393.00) a month and insurance ($2200.00) a year, i know im getting burned but thats what you gotta pay to have a nice car at a young age. and i still have about $4500 saved so im doing pretty good for now.... ~~PeAcE~~ John
