Unhappy Mexican food and police don't mix...help!

Any advice would be kindly appreciated...

I went on a late run for mexican food in Tustin, and waited for my food parked in a handicap spot. I retrieve my chorizo plate and return to the car, and as i'm closing the door to my rex tustin po-po rolls behind me. I get out and 15 seconds later he whips out the ticket book. My girlfriend tries to come out and say that she was in the car the whole time and he just totally blows her off. He seemed to be in a real hurry and didn't care to explain anything to me. What a priznick that bored cop was, even having the nerve to ask if my food was good. Anyway is there any way out claiming the car was never unattended? Any information or websites to read would be appreciated. I'd rather drop the $250 on perrin springs. thanks.

P.S. If anything just know that Alberta's mex food in tustin is very good, and the cops are very bored. hah.

Unhappy

No way around that one...your car was parked in the handicapped spot. Attended or not, that's still a violation. It sucks that it cost you that much, though.

,
don't park in those spots, the idea is you are not handicapped so you can walk 20 feet from a normal spot.

Do people take responsibilty for anything anymore?!

No sympathy from me! I have a family member that canít find handicapped parking spot sometimes when people are parked illegally in the spots.

I bet you wonít do it again!

Too bad the $250 goes to the city, it should go to a charity or something.

even if you were sitting in the car and parked there, the cop would have given you the ticket. just because you're in the car doesn't mean a handicapped person should have to limp farther to get their mexican food. they're miserable enough as it is. why are you trying to make their lives a living hell? have you no compassion? geez.

I hate it when the handicapped park in the normal parking spots. Is there a violation for that?

It's not cool to park in the handicapped spot unless you're handicapped.

Have grannie write you a letter stating she was with you while you were getting mex. food, but forgot the placard. Make sure she includes the placard number.

Or better yet just pay the fine and don't do it again.

In which case, what the hell are you doing behind the wheel anyway? My dad's (LAPD Van Nuys) most favorite saying to me was, "ignorance is no excuse." Stupid cops...

You could even get a ticket if you pull into a handicap spot just to make a u turn or pull into it and then reverse to go the other direction

I dislocated my ankle about a month ago and I just got my temporary handicap parking pass, so you get no sympathy from me. I can't walk right now and it's people like you that make life for handicapped people harder (I'm currently in this group). Stop feeling sorry for yourself and realize that the cop was doing us handicapped people a favor.

edit: Maybe one day when it's hard for you to walk you'll understand

No sympathy, just because you're too lazy to walk the extra 100 feet. Really though, I park 1/4 mile away just to be away from other people's cars... unless they have one like mine.

BTW: Anyone ever see a morbidly obese person park in the handicap spot? Last time I checked, being a fatty didn't qualify for being handicapped.

Default please no flaming...you got me wrong

i think that people are getting the wrong idea here, i never said that it was perfectly fine to "park" in a disabled zone. I am not asking for sympathy, just asking for clarification. Just wondering why people don't get tickets when they stop in the "no stopping zone" at airports when they are in the car. They are merely asked to move the vehicle. I was just wondering if the same went for handicapped parking spots, if you are in the car and just stopped, why can't you be asked to move. It was an empty lot, and had a disabled person wanted to take mine of the ten empty blue marked spots, i would've gladly moved for them. I merely wanted legal advice, not a moral lambasting. why question an honest speeding infraction? because you'd rather not pay. same here. thanks.

there's no way to get out of this ticket since it was completely justified. regardless of day or night. i don't like cops or whatever, but still, that was a handicap spot.

it's almost the same thing as crossing the intersection when a fire truck/ambulance is trying to cross with it's lights and sirens blasting...

bottom line, don't do it again. cops don't have sympathy for handicap parking space violaters.

I had a courier service for 3 years and delivered lost or late luggage for the airlines. People who where parked in the no stopping zone where ticketed about 75% of the time. If the cop was standing there when they pulled up they would just tell them to move. If they had to walk over from fare away and they stayed there after seeing them come over they got a ticket.

There will be no way out of this ticket. Courts come down hard on parking in the handicapped spots for a reason. They don't want people thinking that they are just like any other no parking zone. They are for the handicapped ONLY.

A handicapped person should not have to ask anyone illegaly parked to move thier car at any time.

Even if you are in the car or have passengers in there and even if the engine is running, as long as the vehicle is stopped, it's considered parked.

You can contest the ticket and even request for a hearing, then appeal to a judge. - From my experience, they don't have mercy on handicap parking if your not handicap. It has to be something like an medical emergency (with proof) for them to even consider dismissing.

And that's no joke! A friend of mine was an innocent bystander at a party when he was shot by a gang member in the head. They drove him to the hospital right around the corner in his car, and in the commotion parked in a handicapped spot. They ticket the car. He died. Even then it was a total pain in the a$$ for his mom to get the ticket taken car of ... Even with his death certificate!
