Default swap questions

*this may not be in the right forum, so please move if need be*

so after a LOT of searching in the past few months, ive finally been able to come across a wrx engine for my 99RS, and above and beyond that, its a vishnu stage 2 engine but heres my questions, pretty general swap questions, but im just not sure with the added pOwAh :P

1. since the donor car will be right next to mine, what else will i need to complete the swap? ive been told i will need a new crossmember which i cannot steal from the donor car...

2. i plan on keeping my RS tranny, as ive been told it will hold up just as well as the WRX tranny, so i figure i can save some money buy keeping mine. however, ive heard so many contradictions about clutch/flywheel combos. ive heard u have to have an RS clutch and flywheel, also heard u can use the RS clutch and a WRX flywheel, and so on. which is correct?

3. what clutch/flywheel combo would you recommend? leaning towards the ever popular fidanza lightweight flywheel, but very undecided on the clutch. a friend has a clutchmasters stage 2 on his wrx that is very fun, but will it withstand the output of vishnu stage 2?

4. how similar are the exhaust bends of the RS and the WRX? i havent had a chance to compare the bends, so im *hoping* they are similar enough where i wont have to do any custom fabrication on the vishnu exhaust

5. honestly, is the RS tranny strong enough to handle the power that this engine will output? ive heard it is, but i have my doubts since the previous owner destroyed his wrx tranny something awful.

i think thats all ive got for now...lemme know...and anything else you can suggest, recommend, or forewarn me about would be appreciated

rs transmission i heard start to give up on life after about 200hp are going through them

and a vishnu modded subaru would put out what like 260 at the fw

yeah i wouldnt risk it theres a wrx tranny for sale on here for 500 bucks thats a steal

Actually the rs tranny i don't think is that bad. Didn't someone discover the rs tranny is just as durable as the wrx tranny and the only real gears that are stronger for any impreza are the RA gears, except for the 6speed of course. Also 500 bucks for the tranny is cheap, but you also need the remaining parts to convert it to a pull type clutch, not to mention the new clutch and flywheel. So...not really that cheap. Give your rs tranny a shot, and don't be too mean with it and you might be pleasantly surprised. If you swap it out right away, you'll never know if it would've lasted a long time.

white 2.5rs you couldn't be more wrong. its all about how you drive them. kaos200 was running like 280whp and his stock RS tranny. they're just as strong as wrx but w/ higher gearing.

RS tranny, NO Rs clutch (well you can try but i'd give it a week tops), Stock RS flywheel, unless you want a lightweight one. Get an aftermarket clutch, like a ACT street, but if your going with the vishnu stg. 2 you might want something stronger like a 4 puck or 6puck. The ACT will last you about a year or so, unless you are a little harder on the tranny. Do not get a clutchmasters stage 3 as they've been known to have some problems. Apparently the SPEC clutch isn't all it's cut out to be either. My personal opinion is get a 4puck from primitive and be careful with the tranny, no clutch drops and double clutching. But...opinions are like a$$holes, everybody's got one. Good luck.
P.S. where in NY are you?

it seems to me that there is no definate answer on strenght of Suby's Transmissions. I even hear talk that hte 2.2L tranny is the best...

But then again, the STI tranny is designed for very high power output.

My opinion: Get the cheapest one, or the easiest one, but be prepared to F it up. U can get 3 WRX trannys for the price of an STI one.. he he

what about an act street clutch with a fidanza flywheel? seem like a decent clutch flywheel option for the setup?

Dude, if you want any subaru tranny to hold up you need to be nice to it. Unless you plan on hammering your car don't get a copper-button (pucked) race clutch, they're referred to as "tranny breakers". The ACT street disc is good up to 300 Ft-lb of torque. It will do you and your tranny right. Which ever tranny you go with ACT makes a kit for.

We have used 2.5 RS, 2.5 Legacy GT, 2.2 OBS and 2.0 WRX trannies in our WRX/RS conversions. All cars have been between 310-245 WHP. Yes we have broken trannies. But we have also seen people breaking stock 2.0 wrx trannies at 165whp.
Speaking from experience, any tranny will certainly have it's day. It is all how you decide to use or abuse that will either speed up or prolong that fatal day.

Default Clutch.net

I have a Clutch.Net organic kelvar street clutch in my car that supposed to be good for a little over 300 (claimed 100% over factory HP) I have been very happy with it's drivablity and it's ablity to hold my power and I have used it at the strip and had 1.8xx 60ft times.

I wouldn't recommend the fidanza flywheel with a turbo setup. It is a good idea not to go lower than 12lbs with a flywheel on a turbo setup. Go with the Exedy flywheel and you should be happy.

Default Clutch and flywheel

I second the Exedy!! Takes a lot of abuse, and will slip a little in 1st prevent tanny shock!

after looking at clutchnet's website, they dont list a clutch for a 2.5L impreza, only for the 2.2L, however they do offer one for a 2.5L legacy. how much did you pay for yours?

and thinking about a JUN flywheel since a buddy of mine wholesales jdm parts...
