I love hatchbacks.

If GM ever put Saab's 9-3 back into a hatch, with their 2.0T and gave it Subaru's AWD, Im sorry to say my leggy will be on the dealer lot as soon as Saab started to take deposits.

Isn't that basically what the 9-2 is going to be?

on a side note... according to automobile magazine, subaru does not want direct competition from the saab 9-2 variant for the impreza, so the only options will be a 5 door hatchback, and a 2 door coupe. there wasn't much else in the article other than saab will develop the ej20 it's own way, as well as suspension. interior components, such as the dashboard, will not be shared.

i know there is skeptism in north america about the 9-2 since saab dosen't have a strong market here, but what about overseas? is saab more accepted than subaru?

i like the built in boost gauges. are there 2? one on spedo and tach? kinda crazy, but they are cool, even if they only go to 10 kpa. lol

One looks like Turbo boost and the other looks like oil pressure to me.

Still cool though.

Well, lets put it this way, one kPa=.000145lb/in^2

1ATM=14.7psi=101.3kPa

I don't know what they are trying to get at, or their gauge designers need a physics lesson. 10kPa would equal like 1.46psi wheras 100kPa would be about 14.6psi. It must equate to 100kPa. Who knows.

I think its max at 100kpa.

so i'll assume its pushing out somewhere between 50-70kpa. That'll place it a nice 8-10psi range.

Post Mazda 6

That car isn't the new Mazda 6 persay, it's the upgraded model of the Mazda 6, the "Mazda 6 MPS". I read about it in a car mag, It's debut was at the Paris and Birmingham motor shows. They were wicked proud of the direct-injection engine that is supposed to be running one of the most sophisticated AWD systems in the world.

Mazda is also going to watch the publics reaction to this car very carefully, because this is a direction that they would really like to see Mazda head in the future, and there was a big hype about how this will affect the sales and reputations of the Evo VIII and the Legacy, both being sporty family sedans.

One thing to notice, this is only the concept. The real thing is set to possibly hit next year.

Thumbs up

Sure, it is the Atenza/6 with AWD and turbo on it

OK, not quite that simple, but should be a good package when done we hope. Only worries are the rumours that the AWD is similar to the Volvo S60R's system, which while competent, is not really sports tuned per se.

Also, the price and potential weight is a concern. Have to hope they keep it realistic and reasonably light, because it really is one of the nicest looking cars in its class IMHO, and handles well already. With AWD it should be a beauty!

btw that top pic is of a std car with Mazdaspeed parts all over it.

Cheers

Wow

I'd have to test that one before getting into a Legacy Turbo

But if rumors are that of the Volvo S60R's AWD setup, then they can keep it There's nothing sophisticated about it!

Don't know about the difference between the S60R's AWD and Mazda's AWD, but rumor says the Mazdaspeed 6 MPS's 2.3L is the same as the Ford's Duratec 2.3L.

I have to say that Volvo S60R's AWD system is quite good.

Have you test driven the S60R? The S60R on paper is phenominal, now... drive the thing and you'll notice it's not cracked to be what papers reflect.

Yes, the car is nice and handles well but the 'AWD' is FWD biased which doesn't even distribute 50/50 when needed. Unintentionally, I was able to chirp up to 3rd gear in addition to it's slow response off still position. The revs are sluggish to response but then shoots out like a bullet. Can you say unnecessary thrust whiplash?

The car does have some nice perks, like the 3 suspension modes but the AWD is like the 'synthetic' AWD, it claims to use all 4 tractions when in reality there's just a percentage of it being computer controlled distribution. Similar to the Murano, FX45 and soon to come G35 AWD.

Sorry but there's nothing 'quite good' about it! (Just my opinion, by the way).

AWD: Either you do or you don't... there's no partial.

I LOVE that color scheme for the gauges. I like the way they did the needles, too. Very sexy. I think Mazda just saw how well this segment is doing and the trends, and wants a piece of the action.

(cough) No wagon...(cough)

Hey BigElm, don't forget that the R-series Volvo came in fourth of five (behind even the autobox Legacy Turbo) in the recent Top Gear track test.

Nice seats, though.

It's overall a pretty nice looking car, not sure about it actually coming to the states in those specs though. Competition is always nice. There is definitely some big questions on their AWD system too.
