Default Borla cat-back......

This may be long but here goes.....

A fellow board member had a borla cat-back for sale at a great price so I decided I couldn't pass it up and see what I had to do to get it to fit my 02 OBS. This exhaust came off a 2000 RS.

Just got it yesterday, in perfect condition I might add for a used exhaust. It looked almost brand new. Anyway, I was told by a vendor that the muffler mouting points would fit perfectly but that midpipe was too short and would need to be modified. This was not the case. All of the hanger points and length were perfect. It took me an excited hour to put the exhaust on.

Now for when I started it up...OMG!!!! This is a totally different sounding car. It does really sound like a V8 now or a harley. My wife said she could feel the floor vibrate upstairs in our house when I fired it up. I had read many posts that said there was droning at highway speeds; I haven't noticed this yet. I noticed it more when cruising leisurely at about 25mph. It's not at all obtrusive to me on the highway though. It drowns out my intake now too...

All in all...if some of the 02 and up TS guys or even the OBS folks wanted to know, the borla exhaust does fit, at least on my car it did, and even if I paid brand new price I would have been happy with this purchase. I'll try to find someone who can record what it sounds like on my car for everyone....

So for all the go fast mods, I now have:

Cobb CAI
Borla Headers
Borla Cat-back

Yeah i have the borla axleback and it really does sound like a mustang 5.0 meets a Harley V-twin.
I've had people ask me if i had a V8 in my car after I beat them. I laughed and said no.

Thumbs up Best sounding...

I've had mine for several months and couldn't be happier. I've had some people even call it "sexy!"

Wouldn't trade it for another...

I also recently got the Borla headers and man, my car sounds P.O.'d! Pretty sweet.

Default Borla cat-back

I just put my Borla Cat-Back on last night and It Sounds

Here is a link with the a sound clip, BUT, I found that your computer setup will influence the sound so it is difficult to get an idea without listening to the actual exhaust

system.http://www.fastwrx.com/borcatex.html

I bought my new on Ebay for 400.00 + Free Shipping. Also, there is someone selling a used one in the Private Classifieds and its a really good deal. I would have jumped on it myself if I didn't already have mine installed.

Hope this helps!

ps when removing old catback, i found a little WD40 made it a lot easier to remove the old exhaust from the rubber mounts.

Default Home made Borla Hush

I have had the borla exhaust on my 03 wagon for about 4 months. Love the sound, but couldn't stand the highway droning. I tried dynomat, which helped somewhat, but not enough. Just installed a volt resonator last night which eliminated the droning and didn't seem to effect the sound quality much - actually I think it sounds much cleaner now. Probably the way they should have made it from the beginning. The resonator was only $55, plus my labor, so the value is better than the new hush back from borla.

ya it is alittle louder than the single tip...but once u hear it you will love the Borla. If you decide to go Stromung though...go dual tip

I am not sayin that the Borla is "better," i am just saying that I really like it..I have also heard the Stromung too though and if I were to have to get a new exhaust, I think I would go Stromung...It IS a little quiter than the Borla, but its still deep and burbly...

It is however a bit heavier than the Borla..So if weight is something you are considering, keep that in mind. I will try and get a sound clip this weekend.

Later,
Eric

Impreza WRX Borla Catback 2.5" or 3" with XR-1 Muffler?

I have been reviewing as a much information on Catback systems, and have come to the conclusion that I want to go with the Borla for my '03 WRX. Now, there are two systems, the 2.5" or the 3". I have seen and heard plenty of sound clips for the 2.5" but nothing on the 3". I think the 2.5" sounds good, but does the 3" sound about the same or is it out of control loud? I do not want it to be loud, for loud's sake. Is there really an advantage to getting the 3" system? Bearing in mind that I will bolt this to a factory system, so it will taper out to the 3". If the 3" isn't super-loud and there is a performance advantage to it, the choice is clear. I guess I am just wondering why so few people chose it and so few people publish a sound clip of it? What's wrong with it? Anyway I hope you all can help me out!
