Default Exhaust Leak or Blown turbo??

ok today on the way to the mall, i was cruisin right along, car was boosting well, didn't knock at all today....all in all running very well

then I heard a loud bang, and I thought we had run over something. So I didn't think that much of it until after we were leaving the mall, and started the car. It sounds like a very tinny exhaust note coming from either under the hood or under the car. So, I babied it all the way home. Opened the hood and started the car, it defintely sounds like its coming from under there, and it smells like it too. So after going to run a quick errand i thought i'd floor it to see if i could dignose if the leak was before or after the turbo. It was SO laggy it was not even funny, and I have a deadbolt td04, so this was unbelievable. So I narrowed it down to a leak or problem somewhere before the turbo.

I'm going to try to tighten the uppipe to turbo bolts later on tonite, but do you guys think it could be a blown turbo? This upsets me so much I don't even feel like eating. I feel like I was just dumped by a 1 yr girlfriend... And to think my car and my anniversary is september 12th, tomorrow..... sniff sniff

Much appreciation to any help and consoling you can give...Thanks!

-Mike

were u driving hard when u heard the bang, although turbos "blow out" they usually dont go out with a bang, u might have hit something.
i would say check ur gaskets and bolts, although it is possible that u may have screwed up ur turbo.
good luck

actually i was coasting, or just cruising along at that point....i was pushing it before then, but then i backed off because of traffic. i guess first think i should do is try to pinpoint where it is leaking from....any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Do you have an aftermarket uppipe? If so check the stock egt probe if you still have it and see if it possably backed out.. The same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago when i was driving on the freeway just kinda coasting and i heard a pop and my car sounded like ass and felt even worse.. I thought i popped the DP to Mp gasket but it turnes out my egt backed out.. Just tighten it back up and put a little loctite on it even though the loctite will prob not do its full duties due to it being so hit there it has held ok..

actually i have a gtspec header/uppipe, but i put a bolt in there, that for some reason wasn't the perfect size, so i just tightened it really really tight, probably rethreading it myself, but i'll definitely check to see if that bolt backed out...thanks!

Check to make sure the intercooler hose didn't disconnect.

The one on the turbo was still on there, but i'll pull the intercooler to be sure, BUT, would that make the exhaust note sound dirtier or louder?

Checked the intercooler....everything's sound...

Started engine, felt around turbo, uppipe to turbo, downpipe to turbo....no air movement felt.

Reved it a little and you can hear the valve's very distinctly....VERY loud.....AHA i say...It has to be header to engine, or header to uppipe connection....so i'm gonna have to get under the car tomorrow to check those connections...

They probably just need some tightening of the nuts...I hope

Finally got under the car this morning....and much to my relief it was a bolt that had fallen out from the header to up pipe connection. I just called the dealer and ordered another bolt. Thank God.....w00t

This calls for a couple of bananas...

if it was an intercooler pipe the car wouldnt run period! because it runs off of MAF not MAP thats why its no big deal if intercooler pipes come off on a turbo Honda.
