Default Review of TXS shorty Intake on Stage II and some other Thoughts...

Well i got my TXS shorty intake installed...and here is what i think...

Some Notes:

1) my Air Intake Temps are Skyyyyy high...around 56C cruising around town and 35C on the hwy around 75mph. I used to average around 40C and 25C respectivly with my stock intake

(I think it has to do with my snorkel that i kept on there because i think its restricting the airflow around my engine bay and just divirting it to my passenger fender...i took it out now..and ill see if my AIT's get a little better tommorrow)

2) I accidently left my car on for 30mins ( stupid turbo timer) in the scorching heat..and when i turned my car off..then turned it on...i tried backing out of the parking spot and it felt like my intake was BLOCKED. as in...i was getting little To No Throttle response. So i turned my car off....let it cool down...tried backing out again..and everything was fine. Seems like an isolated incident because it hasnt happend since.

3) ( this is the weirdest experience YET..and it has happend to me Twice during the same conditions)

I had to go home from school ( 5 hour drive) and cruising along the hwy i get the typical p0420 cel...i havent pulled it yet...but im 99% postive it is p0420 because it happens all the time. Anyways...im about 3 hours into the drive on the hwy..and i see a long stretch of road coming up. So i decided to put her into 3rd going 70mph at around 5200rpms and let her rip. THE CAR DOESNT GO. i feel the engine reving higher, i Hear the engine rev higher, and i hear my turbo spooling...But my MPH does not get faster and im actually slowing down. ( feels like the clutch is slipping, also feels like a severe Boost leak, and also feels like Utec Pulling timing) my cel never blinked so that means No knock...and my boost never got any higher than 1.1 bar ( 16~psi). This gets me into a panic..and i instantly Let off. Not knowing what has happened...i just get of the side of the road..and check things out. Everything seems fine...so i go on my way. I decide to see if it was an isolated incident..so i put her into 4th going 70mph @3200~rpms and go WOT. She hesitates AGAIN! this time..jerking back and forth for a good 2 seconds. I Let off the gas once again...and start to get worried. This time...i decide to Log another 4th gear pull and get it on PAPER. So..i hit it again...in 4th @70mph and she pulls HARDDDDD. Just how it used to pull...maybe even better..because i hit 90mph in no time. well..after that log...i decide to just go easy the rest of the trip home.

Btw I have TurboXS Stage II with TXS Uppipe and TXS Shorty Intake ( which i just added a few days ago) Running Stage2NEW (octane Challanged) map unaltered/OPEN LOOP BOOST. It was raining a little.

About my Log that I already Notice:

1) Im running a bit too much boost...but thats because my school is 2500ft above sealevel and this pull was done at sea level. At my school ( where i am at most of the time) i get a perfect 16.7-17.0psi in 4th gear.

2) Since adding my TXS SHORTY INTAKE...my IDC's have dropped dramtically...Im getting as you can see around 78%...but with my stock intake i would get around 95%. This is odd...but im still rich and i dont get any knock.

Anyways...thanks for reading it through...If you made it this far. Im just spilling out my thoughts and concerns..and was hoping to get some expert advice from my (smarter peers) namely...you guys.

Did you have this problem with the stock box and filter? Also what octane are you running ? Any changes in fuel habits?

is your car automatic or manual? you mention it feels like the clutch is slipping, but if it's an auto, it's quite possible that you're low on ATf and your torque converter is transmitting enough force...

Something that may help is after you remove your snorkel is to get the fenderwell blocking plate (can be ordered from subaruwrxparts.com for $5.00). This covers up the hole next to you intake so that you don't suck in hot engine bay air. I have the Perrin short ram which is similar and have had no problems at all. Below is the link to the website, the blocking plate is about halfway down the page, good luck.
