Question EJ18 4AT to EJ20 5MT HELP!

I am gaining interest in this as my engine is reaching 130k miles...I'd like to know how much of a pain in the ass this will be since i have an AT in my car at the moment. And i'm guessing i will need a different ECU to run the different motor. Also if anyone knows an estimate on the price of this that'd be great. So can someone please help me out. thanx

Do you want to swap to a manual tranny or just the EJ20? You definately need the ECU for the EJ20. It should all work with a bit of extra wiring(maybe not extra wiring). Maybe you should get a new AT tranny though since you have so many miles and are adding so much more power unless you want an MT. I have an AT sitting around if you need it with TCU and wiring. It only has 20k on it. Let me know.

There's some dude in aussie land that did this in an older rx turbo sedan or whatever they are called.
Best bet would be to get an entire drivetrain with engine/trans/complete harness. You'll need to graft in the new harness into your old car. The new ej20 transmission mounting holes don't line up. They are close but not a direct bolt in. You'll also need to drill some new holes for the motor mounts. Again, close but not a direct bolt in.
Also things like a new driveline/rear different/ radiator and brakes will be in order.

yeha, u can do it, it should all bolt in. i dont know about the newer GDA bits, but the GC8 bits will all bolt in. why dont u do a JDM swap? its easier IMO, bc u have to do less converisons electronically. u have to mess with wiring no matter what, but the USDM tranny ran electronic signal, my 94 JDM trans is totally plug/play with my 93 USDM guage cluster, if u buy the whole front clip, your wiring should mostly be plug and play. if u get a good enough clip, u can even do RHD converison and have it all be plug/play. the bits are there for you to do the RHD converison. its not as hard as u think. yeha. i would suggest u do the JDM older 93-96 WRX conversion, save cash, easier to swap, and more power as a bonus. the jdm's are more power than the usdm's, and almost all the usa parts will bolt up.........

thats what im in the process of rite now. 94 WRX into 93 L, 94 wrx trans into another 93 L for FWd-->AWD conversion...
