Unhappy H-6--3.0--roadtest

Today I drove the new flat six--LLbean
first the good things--very quiet-smooth.
now thw bad things--poor acceleration
from a dead stop-slow-a 2.5 will beat it.
I am hoping for a break-in period.
passing gear was good.after looking at the
engine--the cylinder heads only have one
exhaust port-per cylinder head-now I now
why it is slow.THE VDC WILL BE HERE SOON

3700lb.

I presume Dave meant that a 2.5L 5spd was faster.

Either that or his previous generation 2.5GT wagon would beat it (which sounds feasible).

One exhaust port per head? Is this the same cockamamie design as the 2.5 ports running together? Obviously the critical design concept was compactness and packaging and not performance. Oh well, maybe they will come out with better heads in the future.

It's probably the tranny. It was mentioned in the last issue of SCC that the auto trannie wasn't the best.

Tim-- the EJ has two exhaust ports per head, it's just that one of them is shrouded while the other is a straight shot.

One port for three cylinders, that can't be right.

It's faster than a VW Passat V6 4Motion Wagon, which is supposed to be its main class competitor. Cheaper, also.

Well the Subaru ER-27 flat 6 had 4 exaust ports total, so only a pair isn't unreasonable.

its gotta be the weight! the LLBean has all kinds of fancy ass Audi-esque gizmos and sound insulation that weigh it down. probably power everything. 3,700 is almost 1,000 lbs more than an RS, and a good 600 lbs more than the 95-99 Legacy sedans!

That makes more sense. Not having had to look, I wasn't sure if we had some sort of siamesed port arrangement on the EJ25. I just remember complaints about the exhaust ports.
