Question Why is there still a TEC-II section

When the section was first created it was said it was done to use until Shiv got his own site up and running. Wasn't that done quite sometime ago now? Doesn't it create an unfair advantage for him? Its one thing to use the SCC mag to get free publicity but does he still need a section here? There are other companies that don't have a message board of their own who I'm sure wouldn't mind a forum as well. Is it going to be removed on the new site? The link to Shiv's company should be in the links section and a simple search will bring up any tech info that was already posted.

As an owner of a TEC-II I can easily testify the usefulness of that forum. It's helped me with a lot of question and tuning a tec2 isn't the easiest thing right when you put it in. It's more of a tuning tool than a promotional device. I can't count the number of times I've gone to that forum for tec help and I've never heard Shiv or anyone else promoting the tec2 there.

The thing about searching though. Something new always comes up, Sean and I both have MY00 and both run a tec2, we have radically different maps to run our engines, I've tried running Seans map file and it didn't run very good on my car while his car runs almost flawlessly with it, in fact it seems now that every engine is different, so people are always coming up with new questions.

Your missing the point. Alex said orignally that it was only to be on the site until Shiv had one of his own. Then you would do what the rest of the people do with other parts. You would get ahold of the manufacturer. If there was arguements about the Off-Topic section then why not consider removing other less useful sections. How many people are actually using the TEC-II? Trust me it isn't some huge numbers to justify its own section.

I undertand your point, I probably just wouldn't want it to go as it's the easiest way to get help without calling Shiv who would be on the phone all day (probably is), I guess it's not really fair to people who do not own tec2's to go through more trouble getting tech help but still the tuning questions involved in a exhaust install or even a cams install (while hard it's basically plug it in and go from there)varies greatly from a engine managment system install, the tec2 requires a LOT of tuning, maybe an engine managment forum or a forum devoted specifically to engine tuning...guess you'd have to see it from a TEC-II owners view. Oh and how did you reply so fast...about 1 minute after I posted that

well, i'd be willing to host the TEC-II forum elsewhere free of charge. i've seen plenty of people who don't own tec-iis get loads of useful info from that forum, so it's not like it's only benefiting shiv's customers, imho. but even so, i do think i agree with N/A - it appears as a small conflict of interest, even if the intention isn't there.

I see your point N/A, but I also like to check up on the section even though buying a Tech II is at least a year away from me. I know it seems like an unfair advantage for this section to still be here, but right now I really don't see much of competition for this system. Even if few of us non Tech II owners post, some might read. I like being able to get some idea of the "lingo" that is used for tuning, and any info I can learn now is stored for future reference. I say keep it, it is by far the more hard-core of the tuning sections here.

Thumbs down

I have to agree here. I don't care if the Tec2/Minnam combo is the best bang for the buck & I don't care if Shiv doesn't make a penny from this. IMO it's just immoral to be a journalist reviewing, promoting, and selling your own product, even if you believe it's the best.

Even if it was helpful to a select few, the last Project Impreza article caused me to lose all respect for the project. It looked more like an instruction manual that should come with the Vishnu kit.

Guys, can you please leave this up to me please. There is no need to discuss this here. Shiv's forum is here, becuase I am setting up a message board for him on his site and as soon as I am done, it will be moved over there. Now, what do you really want me to be doing, moving his forum or finishing the new site?

I am closing this thread. If you have any comments, please PM me.
