Post hood scoops galore!!

OK is it me or what? I've been noticing of late alot of cars are sporting either vents or a hood scoop. Here's the list so far....
current cars:
Impreza RS and OBS
Mustang
Firebird
Legacy (previous gen)

the above cars have sported scoops for a while now....
then below are the new models :
Celica
Grand Prixs GTX or something!
That Toyota Truck

What's the deal here?

you know that the mustang's scoop/brake ducts are blocked off too. at least we have an excuse of being a Subaru parts bin frankenstien, but to create a car with those blocked off...

lets not forget the pride of detroit, the viper. it has vents/scoop. and the pride of Maranello, the 550. hood scoop there as well. of course, on those, its more function rather than form, which i guess is getting away from the original intent of the post, but oh well.

people think it looks "cool", so that's why. i mean crap, what's the main reason for taking an RS over an L? the scoops (weel, and the more power, and ABS).

I think there is a lot more than that for taking an RS over an L.

basically, though, speed and looks. for example, if internally the L and RS were the same.. but looked as different as they do...garaunteed most people would still take the RS over the L, cause it's better looking, thanks to useless scoops and vents

When I was car shopping (before i thought i could afford a new car) I was looking at a supercharged 4runner with a scoop. It ws pretty nice. RS better though, i'm not affraid of rolling it.
