engine change WRX just will not start HELP

Just fitted a replacement engine.
Into a 1994 subaru impreza saloon.We have reset the ECU but just can not start the engine.
There seems to be a lot of pressure in the water system and loosing water but no sign of water in oil.
Also only firing on 2 plugs?The engine came out of Subaru 1994 which was in a smash.There was only 55000km on the clock.Could the cylinder walls have cracked in the crash or anything like that.
Any suggestions.Help

What's a compression test showing you?

Have you verified mechanical timing? Are you getting fuel?

Did you pull the heads off and check the valves? Since the timing belt is on the front of the engine, it's really suceptible to getting hit in a crash. When that happens the belt stops, the cams stop, the valves stop wherever they happen to be, but the pistons keep going... and slam into the valves. It's hard to find a Subaru engine from a car which was hit in the front that doesn't have bent valves... if it's bad enough, it wouldn't start.

Dunno if it's the problem at all, but it's something you should check.

What does it sound like when it tries to start? Could be lifters if engine was sitting long. Does it turn over? Try to turn over? does timing belt move? so many questions man be more specific and I can help you.
