Unhappy Pics of our Impreza after getting hit by a Semi.

Well here is the link to the album of our poor Impreza.
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Album...027&a=11627648

We think it's a goner, and the Body shop thinks the same.

It saved my Fiancee', notice how the side impact beam kept whatever it was from pushing a hole right through to the other side. I also noticed that the door had steel, the beam and then another section of steel. I have had many cars that didnt have the steel on the inside, just plastic.

The car was still running after the impacts, which spun the car into the front of the Semi, which then hit many times, til the car stopped spinning on the opposite side of the freeway.

We will probably be looking for a used (but not abused) 2.5RS .

We may consider a Legacy.

Those that are lowballing the price of their cars, feel free to e-mail me.

Hahaha, that is OK. She is fine.

Stay away from A&P Metro Pro towing, they left the grease all over the seat, while it was in the tow yard for a whopping 2 days.

Yeah,DIY clear corners, gotta love it. So clean, looks like there is no plastic, huh?

Thanks, Fuji, I wasnt in the car at the time,my Fiancee' was driving. She is still sore, the accident took place on Valentine's day, nice, huh?

Mprezive, thanks, and I think I am sad about it as much as she is. It was more her car than mine, but it was all me when it came to maintenence, fluid changes, etc.

STI, there were only 64k miles on it,and the worst part (maybe not the worst) is that we only had 3 payments left til' we had the pink slip, and no payments.

The deisel driver was sited at the scene, and the accident report shows he made an unsafe lane change.

We really want to go for the throat with this jerk, and get a new RS. Likely we will be looking at a used RS,with who knows how much we have to come up for the difference.

Unhappy

Thanks Horatio, She works for a law firm that represents another one of the big insurance companies, and is getting a lot of help through friends at the office.

She was driving it was her car, when we go out together,I drive it,but we are both covered on each other's cars.

Thanks for the useful info, and the WRX thing sounds good, but dang, the blue book on the car is only $11,500,so minus a grand or two left in payments on it,and we are looking at $9500 net, after payoff. So we need to strangle these guys for what, another $15k??? Wow,I am not sure if we can pull that off.

Maybe,we will see, this fool was very negligient to say the least, and the hole through the driver's side door shows that it wouldnt have taken much more to seioulsy injure or kill.

The only thing that ever helped me after an accident was to keep meticulous records of everyone I talked to and everything that was said. Dates, times, names, numbers, etc.

After 2 months of no action from the insurance company I had 18 pages of notes, and I threatened to contact the California State Insurance Commissioner, and a lawyer.

They said in exchange for the notes, they would write me a check for double what I was asking. "You were probably hurt a little, right, like your neck must have been sore? How about $2,000 for that 'injury'?"

I was done in less that an hour, and 50 minutes was driving to their office.

Hey, um, something I learned the other day.
before the something, a PS. Go after the other guy's insurance. Talk to the insurance rep, tell him you aren't going to settle on anything until you talk to a lawyer. That'll get the ball rolling on buying your new WRX. Pain and suffering is what? 1.5 times the actual damages? Where did I hear that?

Now for the thing I heard the other day. Your insurance may not cover it if for some reason the other guy's doesn't. Why? If the vehicle is readily available to somebody NOT listed on your policy, they may not have to pay for it. Odd. I'm not sure what companies do this, and I don't know where the clause would be in your policy. That's precisely why I don't let any of my roommates (one of them is my gf) drive my cars. Of course... I keep a spare set of keys in the kitchen all the time, but that's just in case I lock myself out of a car. >wink wink<

If the insurance company asks, don't tell them that she drives your car often.

Thanks.

We are pretty certain that we are looking for newer RS, possibly even brand new,or newer Legacy GT's.

The WRX is probably out of our range, unless something happens with the guilty party's ins co.

Thanks for all the tips, we will certainly try to get what we can from these people.

Thumbs down

Well,the Impreza is totalled.

The scary part is that they will look at comparible Imprezas in our area, by looking at Autotraders, the net, etc. I think we will get about $9k for it.

Joe2k, we are interested in Auto equipped RS',we dont have the check yet,but that is what we are looking for. Used is OK,but you are in Canada, arent you? That's a long way for either one of us to go for a test drive. Either way, drop me an e-mail.

That or auto Legacy.

That looks pretty bad but most of the damage is cosmetic.Once they pull it straight change the quater panel and a used door ,reinforcement and bumpercover.that looks real simple to me but i don,t know the year of the car and mileage.I just changed a full rail on a expedition , engine work also all front panels plus bodywork. If you want the car back the insurance could work something out with the bodyshop,I think the insurance would like to pay less out

We have Mercury Ins,and they are known for not trying to fix vehicles that are even close to 70% of their worth in damage.

Maybe you're right, but the risk of having something closer to Frankenstein than the clean car we had is kinda' scary.

Notice that the right side was hit hard enough to put a ripple across the trunk.

The left fender, although it didnt get hit,is buckled from the force of the impact that hit the left side.

We will be visiting a Subie dealer soon. We will check out an 01', to see what we will be in for if we cant find the right used RS, or Legacy.

socal2.2 - Hey man.. you shouldn't really even have to talk with your own insurance company, except to tell them to drop coverage and pick up a new one. It's the other guy's problem, deal with their insurance. Whenever I get involved in some sort of a claim, I call my insurance to let them know what's going on, but I tell them it's just to get it in the record. Then I start talking to the other person's insurance company. If anything comes out of my insurance, I have to foot my deductible. I don't like spending my money when I don't have to. You said your fiancee works for a law firm? She needs to meet the agents and adjusters and start handing out business cards. If they say "law firm" on them... man. I'm pretty sure that lawyers and lawsuits are the only thing that frightens insurance companies.

Thanks Horatio,we are probably going to hire a lawyer.

We have heard that commercial insurance companies suck, and are very slow to pay.
