Default 2002 WRX ABS Unit vs. MY00 RS ABS Unit...

They both appear to be the same exact unit(looks the same, connectors are the same), but could they be different internally to make it incompatible with a MY00 RS ABS system vs. the one it came out of?

Reason I ask is that I have a source for the ABS Unit from a 2002 WRX, but part numbers are different. Looks the same though when visually comparing mine to a WRX's.

I'm thinking I'm good but just wanted clarification.

Any input?

Kevin

Just because the units look the same doesn't mean they are the same internally. I don't know what might have changed between 2000 and 2002, but if the foundation brake system changed (different calipers or rotors, for example), then it is a fair bet that the internals of the ABS unit have changed. And by change, I mean sizing of internal components. It may still plug in (thus "compatible"), but performance may be really really bad if the sizing of internal components are different enough.

(This says nothing of the software, which I am sure changed between 2000 and 2002.)

I am upgrading to WRX brakes anyway...but now i'm wondering about the other precautions you mentioned.

Any more input on this anyone? Maybe I will compare part numbers on the actual ABS unit from another 2000 or 2001 RS...

Thank you,
Kevin
