Default Teh Legacy ist LOWER!!

Just had 4 new monroe struts put in and get this 4 205/60/14 snow tires put on the stock rims!!!

Car sits about an inch lower than stock. Looks good. Feels a little faster with the lower circumference tires

Isn't it a bit early for snow tires?

Why monroe struts?

Why taller (SLOWER) tires?

Why snow tires?

Last but not least, how would the car be lower if the springs are the same and the tires are actually taller?!

a) Im a college student, and these were all I could afford. Insurance combined with my tuition cost could make you cry. (just ask how much I pay)

b) Im living in NH, Northern NH to be exact. I need snow tires up here to get around.

c) I havent seent he car yet, Dad's bringing it up this weekend. But I am running 225/45/17 for the summer. These are 205/60/14. Key number is 14... My car came with 195/70/14 stock.

GR2's were pretty much the same price as monroes back in the day. The GR2's are hands down better IMO.

So how much are you paying for tuition......hmmm

Honestly, that ain't so bad for out of state...I go to a state school and if you're from out of state you pay about double.

Holy crap! Is that normal for tuition? I paid about $3500CAD per year for tuition when I was in University (4-5 years ago). What school are you going to and what do you study?
Best of luck with it...and have fun on the 14's, that will be tough after running on 17's.

where you goin to school at?

I think mine was around 12,000 for just tuition for a year. Room and board was around 6,000 a year....give or take a thousand or two.

I had a good 40k+ in loans when I graduated. It's probably down around 33k now......two years later......you know what sucks though....I consolidated just before interested bottomed at like 3-4%. So I have a 25k loan with 6.125% interest rate

Take out loans....that's what they're there for.....and be in debt your whole life.......

Im going to Plymouth State University in Plymouth NH. Im going for a Childhood Studies major with a minor in Special education Its about normal for out of state.

Not just the tuition but in addition to that, I dropped $2500 on a laptop and had some unexpected costs come up the first month ($1k cell bill from Verizon because I never shifted my plan to NH from NJ and the phone was turned on 24/7).

Ciper, why are you dogging this kid so much?
Not only are you wrong, you're stubborn.

205/60/14 is a really short tire.

Think about it this way. 205/60/14 OD = 205/50/15 = 215/45/16 = 225/35/17 (roughly, so gimme a break)

OD of his current rolling stock @ 225/45/17 = 24.97 inches
OD of his winter tires @ 205/60/14 = 23.68 inches

That's a considerable difference, and it will lower the car a considerable amount, especially visually.

He's got much better gearing torque-wise, and a 205/60 is not a wide tire.

Lay off, eh?
You ever consider that might have gotten a deal on Monroes?
Or that we all can't spring for the "perfect" parts?

You are right, twice I read the tire size and I still didnt read 14

So Im wrong and stubborn!

Now that I look at it thats a great way to make the car faster. Im going to be using 215 45 16 on my legacy for the same reason, except instead of snow tires they are super sticky falkens.

Im still curious how much the monroes went for

That tire size is pretty much exactly what I want to run on my spare wheels. I'm just not sure if they will rub with the WRX wheels. The 205/50 r16 re92's rubbed a little on the strut perch. If they were on my normal wheels, they'd probably be ok.

I need to find someone with some used falkens in that size so i can test fit

I understand the whole college budget thing, the only way I could have 2 cars as a sophomore is because I also work 35 hrs a week as well as take 12 credit hours!

Anyway, Monroes are crap IMO. My Legacy has so much bodyroll in corners I really feel like I'm gonna flip like an SUV or something. It also makes understeer a VERY big problem. My XT, which has all new factory air suspension (made by Tokico, BTW) will hand the Legacy's a$$ to it in handling, even though I have all new Michelin Symmetries on the Legacy and the XT has bald Michelin XGT H4's . When the XT gets new tires, it will simply be a night-and-day difference.

My plan is to take those Monroe POS'es out eventually and put in the famous GR2's...

I believe the total package: Struts, 4 Michelin Alpin somethings (Forget model number) an oil change with amsoil 5w30 and Fram X2 filter, labor and a fuel filter change came to like 800 bucks from a local shop.

THis is the same guy that chaged out my broken front axles for a total of $40

And just to play devils advocate here. I helped put a set of Monroes on a friends car about 2 years ago and even though the stock suspension was entirely shot, I was impressed by the ride afterwards. The setup was their top line strut, monroematics, I think. They do make several strut/shock versions and I am sure some of them are very cheaply made, but these struts werent half bad.

Serious improvement in roll and pitch. The struts had kinda a weird reaction and then further reaction feeling to them. Kinda hard to describe but the total affect was ok.

ss

Nice work hucked up, you sound like youre making the right compromises to me.

edit: I was wrong on the name, the struts were Monroe Sensa-tracs. For the Subarus they are available for about $68 each, I was curious enough to look it up.
