Question difference between 2.5 and 2.0wrx block? (not a newbie ?)

ok guys..

im wonderin if you guys would like to help me out. im trying to figure out which block would be better suited for boost. i know that the WRX block has been boosted for a long time, with great results. what is the difference between the WRX and RS block (aside from the displacement)? i know that COBB performs a closed block "mod" on the RS, which would significantly improve the blocks ability to handle big boost. the WRX is semi-closed block. now if you add stronger internals (stronger piston heads and connecting rods) then those parts are good to go, and wont break. no aside from all the little parts (tougher valves, new springs, bla bla bla) i feel that it would be more economical to build up a 2.5 block over doing the WRX powertrain swap. i know that the tranny is gonna be a weak point w/ all that power, but thats a different discussion.

so, to sum it all up, i feel that a majorly beefed up 2.5 block would be better for high boost than a WRX block.

opinions?

My opinion is this:

I've been thinking about the same thing - getting a turbo and reliable power from my engine.

I've read a few places (okay, maybe just one) that the crank on the EJ25 is good, but the crank on the EJ22T is hardened, and hence better. In addition, the block for the EJ22T has piston oil sprayers, which keep things cool. Basically, the EJ22T block is known for being bulletproof.

How bulletproof? Check this guy out:

That is my goal.

You can buy the EJ22T block (which was used in the 92-94 Legacy Turbo) from SubaruParts.com or your local dealer. The part number is 10103aa310 (longblock).

Since the whole thing was designed for a turbo, you'll be able to get plenty of power and still be somewhat reliable.

My two cents.

Mac

thas sweet! georgeous car! i didnt even think about a different crank in the engines. from what you say it seems the wrx block would be the way to go.
